if racing is your goal and you want to stay ofna get a hyper8.5. sure it is 420 bucks but it comes with every good hop up you may need and all the sway bars.

If you are looking for a serious race machine, dependable and highly adjustable then look no further than XRAY.

The new XB8EC is a huge step forward for the XB8 chassis, and with a forum chocked full of team drivers, enthusiasts and weekend racers offering tips, setups and answer to every question I must say that Xray has one of the best support systems in place.

They boast if not the biggest, then darn near the biggest collection of set-ups from everyday racers, to the factory team drivers. Hundreds and hundreds of setups for every race condition.

Afraid of parts availability? Don't be, the XB8 chassis is so solid that you will rarely break a part. My own XB8TQ finally broke its first part last month in 2 years of running, a simple $6 steering knuckle.

The initial price can scare even the most seasoned racer, but when you buy an Xray kit, you get it ready to compete. That means no hop-ups required, and no special tweaking needed. Not to mention a phenomenal instruction manual with clear, concise color pictures written in CAD to be ultra precise.

Everyone around my area loves their Xrays, and I absolutely love their personal customer support. I once had a problem with a diff case that wasn't moulded right. They sent me a new diff case, and a HUDY pit towel ALL FREE for my trouble! I had a bad set of rear shock casings, and they AGAIN sent me a free set fast.

Look them up, I know you won't be disappointed.

Rosco couldn't of said it better, but if you are on a buget a sportwerks will do the trick, another great buggy.

Uh, X-Rays are great and all, but its not like he won't be satisfied with a Hyper 8.5.

I smoke X-Rays (Other brands too) all day long with my Hyper.

;)

The hyper 8.5 is the best bang for the buck, period! You can get 'em for around $420 at www.nitrohouse.com - just call them up, ask for Rob, and say that I want the 'rabidsquirrel' (A.K.A. Shawn Cartwright) referral discount.

It's a great buggy and just as competative as the next, with a distinct advantage in the rough stuff over every other bug out there right now. Great jumper, turns on a dime, and just solid as all get out. I honestly don't believe that there's a better all around package out there right now, and that's excluding cost... The Losi jumps slightly farther - SLIGHTLY, but the H8 flies just as well as the Losi. A dialed hyper in the rough cannot be touched!

There are some recommended 'mods' on the nitrohouse site for the H8. You'll really want to do those to make it indestructable... They are easy to do, with the toughest one requiring a dremel and 2 machine nuts/bolts...

Spares are plentiful and dirt cheap on Ebay as well. You really can't go wrong with this buggy - nor will you really go wrong with an Xray, but the Hyper is far cheaper and honestly faster (Your mileage may vary depending upon individual skill levels) in most cases - easier to acheive a baseline setting that works on almost all tracks... X-Rays tend to have to fiddle with their setups more on each track.

Other buggies are good as well. Hypers just beat everyone on pricepoint versus competative design - IMO, and it is usually the minority buggy at most tracks with the best shot at bagging an A-main podium. It's different and you don't see it in the hands of every other dude at the track. You will see it in the hands of a few fast guys at your local track. It also just won the 'Euro Off-Road World Championships), so it'll work well on fast high traction tracks just as well as rough/rutted tracks.

BTW ~ Did I mention it's a 'Chick Magnet'?

:D

Read up on the OFNA forum in the Hyper 8 section about it:

www.ofna.com/forum

Honestly though, get want you want. Many buggies are really good these days. With the Hyper 8.5, you're just getting phenomenal 'Bang' for your proverbial 'Buck'. Hope this helps.

And to you X-Ray dudes. I wasn't flaming X-Rays above. They are great buggies and 2nd to none in terms of fit and finish. Every part installs perfectly, and their customer support is already legendary.

I still enjoy passing them on the race track, though!

;)
