reciver pack help!!!

i feel like im just not gettin the power out of my servo's like i should. Im thinkin lipo is the best way to go so dose anyone know what tha best pack is that will fit in a strait pack case for my xb8? thanks!

What makes you think you're not getting the power you should be out of yoru servos? Just curious. I've no experiance with lipo stuff so can't help ya there.

even with lipo you still can only get 6 volts or you will burn up your servos anyways. i have the same ? as JBROW.

Not true, I've been running my Ace Digital servos with 6.7v for about 16 months now using 2000mah lipos.

What regulator do you have? I could only find one with 6.5v. Servos are awesome with more power. And the lipo make the vehicle very consistent the whole race long. With nimh the voltage starts dropping as soon as the switch is turned on. Lipos stay at the same voltage, that is until their charge is out and the regulator cuts off the power. And that is why the regulators are important. I'm happy I switched to lipo. Much better lap times.

before you jump on the voltage you might want to check for binding of the various components ,, remember to check with it at full extension and full compression of the suspension.. just take the horn off the servo and check it out,, should be almost no resistance..

alot of people run lipos with no problem but i gotta post this for those who dont know it already. Lipo + heavy impact that damages the cell = boom (more like a jet of fire melting all kinds of stuff).

I have to agree about checking your servos for any areas that may be binding. I've made to the switch to lipo in one of my truggys and the only thing that I've noticed is that I don't have to worry if I have enough "life" for the entire day. I've not noticed any increase in performance of my servos...

With regard to the statement below about lipos going "boom" in a heavy impact. Has anyone actually had this happen and can verify it? It may be a possibility, but has anyone actually have it happen to them and can prove it?

I've had nimh batteries short and melt stuff once before, so it can happen with other type of batteries...

You didn't say what kind of servos or rec pack you are running so it's kind of hard to say.

Back when a 1200 mah nicd was the best rec pack you could get, I ran a pair of air 358's on one and they worked fine, but the pack needed to be charged after three 5 minute heats and would just make a 15 minute main before it dumped. Since then I've run both a 1400 and (currently) a 1600 nimh rec pack with a pair of the same servos and I can't tell any difference in speed/torque, but I do get much longer run times on a charge. Increased cell capacity will give you more run time but will not deliver any increased performance other than longer run times between charges.

The same would be true with lipo since you have to run a regulator to avoid frying your servos. As was pointed out, a lipo will deliver more voltage for a longer period, but it still won't deliver any more than your regulator allows.

There is however an alternative which will give you more performance, switch to robot servos (rated at 7V) and run a lipo with no regulator. I've not tried this yet so I don't know how much run time this setup would deliver using a lipo small enough to fit inside the average 8th buggy rec box, but it would give you more power from your servos.

I guess the real question is how much power do you really need servos to have? I've run buggies, truggies, and MT's on air 358 servos and never had any problems with servo power, so the ultra high torque potential in robot servos would seem like gross overkill to me.
