The rtr is definately a race worthy truck, the servos that come with it are metal geared and can take a beating. The rtr motor is pretty well suited to racing outdoors where more power will only spin the rear wheels.

As far as what to take, I take everything. Tools and any spares you have. The single most important thing for racing is having good tires, especially rears. I would get a starter box and ditch the pullstart, you might have to get a nonpull crank and backplate. Or you could just take the pullstart housing off and leave the little shaft sticking out.

most of the guys that race the FT trucks take several of the factory team parts (tranny brace, front bulkhead) off and put the rtr parts on.

Good luck and happy racing

RPM doesn't make a front shock tower, your only options are stock or aluminum or Xtreme racing makes a graphite one

I've never broken a shock tower, but it was really cold last week at the track and I did break 1 rear arm and 2 ballends. I also broke a caster block while running up front in the main It was a long day but I think the cold made the plastic brittle. good thing I had all the parts in my box, it made it a little easier on the wallet

Thanks for the advice whats the point of removing the pullstart when we were racing karts we did it for drag on the engine reasons is it the same here or just a weight thing

Taking the pull start off saves weight/drag. Pull starts are also the devil, if it's not broken right now it will be soon, LOL. Get a bump box. Take off the one way bearing and put the plastic housing back on. No need to get a non pull back plate, etc. the truck will start fine.

BTW, we had a full heat of these at RCP TX Rd 1 this weekend. That was suweet! And Rd 2 isn't until March 21, and the race is capped out in all classes. Another full heat of GT.

Not sure about 1/10 scale big bore shocks. You might have been looking at the 8th scale stuff for the buggy/truggy or the Monster truck.

At any rate the FT shocks are sweet. Easy to bleed and build. So simple. They should be all that you would ever need for hop-ups. Just focus on getting set with wheels and tires. Maybe some turnbuckles and rod-ends. I have broken the front shock tower before, but it was just where the ballstud mounts. When that little stand-off breaks there is no-where to mount the ballstud. So I have spare front tower. And also the upside-down "U" shaped piece under the rear shock tower. Sometimes that has broken on me, but it has never broke in a crash. Only landing from too large of a jump.

Don't go crazy with aluminum pieces. The weakest link will always break and you don't want that to be something important. Let the arms, and hubs break because it takes just a few minutes to replace them.

Use the truck to learn about cornering and throttle control. Gas truck is the funnest way to learn that.

I would like to get started in racing my rc10gt2 and I don't know what tools to get. I'm 14 and have a small budget so I would appreciate it if you could tell me the must haves.

This should be a good start for tools which you can get at your hobby shop. Copy the part numbers down and take the list to the LHS. The person(s) there should cut you a bit of a break for buying all the stuff there. Plus your tools supply will build over time.
