So, has anyone spent $1100 and ordered a Mayako yet?

it's only the next edition of the JQ buggy.
Will drive similar, as typical of anything by JQ, designed by him for his driving style.
Don't waste your time or money on it, buy a big brand, hb/kyo/mugen.

New brand in the world of RC?
Or a Kyosho/Mugen Brand B or other brand?

I’m not saying you’re wrong..... Just wondering why if it’s the new JQ car, why is it being sold under a different name? Usually it’s the other way around, the older version of a model is sold under a different name after it’s been replaced by a newer version.

All the details aren't out yet but from what I pieced together there's someone (or maybe a group of people, or existing company, whatever) who wanted to create a new brand and hired JQ as the designer.

If it works out cool, if the car works great... not sure how the membership is gonna work out right now, given the current global issues. If this is a Group effort, as has been posted on their Website / FB then I wonder how that will work out in the long run, with the different personalities involved.
Just hate to see another car come to market... then fizzle out ala the Shepherd Bull, and Team Magic M series cars...

I'm most interested in seeing how the whole "direct sales only" thing turns out. It's not a problem for the US as of right now but literally ever other country has some sort of import tax/customs system in place which in some cases is prohibitively expensive (looking at a lot of places in South America) and/or incredibly inconvenient (the average customs pick up in Germany takes me around 3 hours and sends me to the other end of the city). I don't really see the benefit in letting everyone deal with that shit on their own.

Could be one guy's passion project he hired lots of well known and capable people for. Could be a group of people coming together to form it. Could be a company behind it that's looking to get into the RC business.

There's still lots of info missing, like who's behind Mayako, the whole scope of it, etc.

Eh, good point. I'm just interested in how things came to be, especially because it doesn't look like a Tekno story where the brand/company formed naturally.
In the podcast he also said he can't talk about who's behind it yet, so it'll be announced sooner or later.
