Default Lipo/Life receiver battery Q - RC10GT2

I am tired of NiMH packs as I seem to have problems with these over time (i don't run the car that often). I know Lipo needs a voltage regulator for 6v servos and i might need to add weight. What about Life packs? I see that the voltage is 6.6v, but is that the average voltage so i would still need a regulator? Also, is that a better option than Lipo for any reason? i.e. longevity, safety, weight, etc? Also, if anyone knows if these will fit in the battery box of a GT2 let me know.

Thanks
