Default Throwback - 1:8 Nitro Offroad Racing.

I was just thinking the other day, so many of us probably still have our older sentimental 1:8 buggies. Given that these day the electric vintage scene is going well, why is this not the case with 1:8.

I am talling about "mid school" cars, like the MP7.5, TT EB4-s cars, MBX4, Laro, Berg, Lightning etc.

Would be cool to see old buggies out running again, even with just simple 3 ports. I think especially for the kids that are trying to get into 1:8 racing, but cost is prohibitive.

There are many good cars to be found in the BST, Fleabay etc.

I know in France they do such a class. Even at.some.of my local tracks we have drivers with older buggies driving alongside the latest and greatest.

Thoughts.

I was thinking about this yesterday.

It's kind of hard to find these in good condition and parts support isn't there other than the Kyosho and the TTR(maybe). Yet those were also available in RTR trim and those are common, so how about having a couple of loaners to have on track? We did that with my 7.5 and a GS Storm, I think I haven't seem someone that couldn't handle them enough to have fun!

Default My Throwback

DuraTrax Axis from '02-'04 era. Serves in retirement as a wall display now, but ran the track with a Nova 3-port back in '15. In the image, it is to the left of my MBX7. Axis is still track capable, but I would not race it.

I run all my cars all the time or at least as much as I can.

I have 2 MBX5 Prospecs, MP777 SP2, and my EB4-S3 has a fairly new FX Royal Racing K5.

I don't do shelf queens and I don't care about age and I'm well stocked on parts so I can just enjoy any of my cars and I drive them hard too.

I do have newer cars: DNX8, RC8 B3, and an RC8T3.

Here's a pic of my EB4 about 3 months ago.

Im no racer, but have always wanted a buggy. I just didnít want to buy a bump box and all the spares needed for buggy when I already had a huge pile of stuff for 1/8 MT and 1/10 ST. BUT!! Times are changing. I bought this circa Y2K Paris Racing engine awhile back on a whim NIB and feel it needs to go into a Y2K vintage buggy... Iíll never get a buyer to give me what I have into it, and I have too much respect of itís provenance to let it go for less and possibly get destroyed. So Iím keeping her and gonna out her into something. Keep it original and to the era of which it came. I might even actually use the Boost chamber that doesnít work .

Crap! The OP said 3-port. I think this one is a 5-port. Does it still qualify?

Yeah, I dont think that would be an issue, even with newer fuel, I think it would perform the same as the current crop of 3 ports.

You should find a nice MP7.5 to put that in. I think the short wheelbase and the overrall forgivinngness of the MP7.5 would lend itsself well to it, or even an MBX4.

Pic is of an MBX4 with a Paris Picco Motor

Hello SlowLST2,

The Boost Chamber is actually taken from Yamaha YEIS (Energy Induction System).. Back in the 1996s I remember that the First edition was using an Aluminium Bottle that connected to the Carburetor neck.. Later edition is put at the Back Plate like the that You have.. 1995 OS 21RZ-B was using this chamber as well..

I remember that the low-end is good with this Chamber System but if I'm not wrong the top-end was a bit restricted..

Just my 2 cents.. And the timeline might be not accurately correct..

Cheers.. )

Boost chambers are snake oil of the finest quality as are Nitro superchargers. Cool conversation piece though.

Well now I am scouring to build an old buggy now. Miss wheeling the short wheelbase buggies. lol.

now to find that MBX4, Super Athlete or MP7.5.

Picco or Nova 3 port will def. be powering it! My son is excited to wheel his MBX7R and compare times... I have not even started yet!

...hmm does this mean I need an old three tab AMB, and a Saddle Pack NiMh Receiver battery, lol.

These were the good ol’ days. The 7.5 Kanai was my first competition worthy vehicle and they weren’t even cheap back then either lol.

So for now, I have an MBX5-R on the way, and am building up my TRF801 again with an old EBmods V-Spec. The MBX5-R will get a RB Concept C3 for now.
