Default '14-'15 HobbyPLEX Winter Carpet Onroad Series!!

Summer is just about over so it's time to start thinking about the '14-'15 HobbyPLEX Winter Carpet Onroad Series!!!

Dates: November 9th, December 14th, January 18th, February 8th, March 15th

Classes: MINI - TCS Specs, VTA & USGT - USVTA Specs, Formula 1 - UF1 Specs, 13.5 1/12th & 17.5 TC - ROAR Specs

Entry Fee: First class - $20, Additional class - $10, Junior drivers (12 & under) - $5/class

Doors open @ 9AM, Practice until 11AM, Qualifying @ 11:15AM, Racing begins @ 12:45PM

We will also return to the unique race format from the '12-,13 series. First round is an open qualifying session, with your fast five lap average seeding the mains. TQ will be worth 2 points! Three "heads up" races to determine the overall winner and each class will use a unique points system.

**Mini, 1/12th & 17.5 TC will all use the "Triple A" format, best 2 of 3 on points, tie-breaker total time.

**VTA will count each race as an "A" main and add up the points at the end with 150 being a perfect score. Race #1 will start inverted, race #2 will start inverted from the race #1 finish, race #3 will start inverted from the race #2 finish. "A" mains will be 8 minutes and lower mains will 5 minutes.

**USGT will count each race as an "A" main and add up the points at the end with 150 being a perfect score. Race #1 will start on qualifying order, race #2 will start inverted from race #1 finish, race #3 will start on qualifying order. All races will be 6 minutes.

**UF1 will count each race as an "A" main and add up the points at the end with 150 being a perfect score. Each of the three races will start on qualifying order and run 6 minutes.

Points will be best 4 of 5 with the finals in March multiplied by 1.5 for the final points!! Plus, if you attend at least four of the five races, you will be eligible for prize drawings at the finals in March!!!

Check the dates and clear your calendars guys!! Should be a FUN season of racing, don't miss out!!!!

Any questions or comments?

Thanks,

Tim Ski

I've been waiting all year for this: more great racing with the Omaha gang! We may have a few Topeka guys there on a regular basis, too!

Will we be doing any tech inspections this year?

You're hired!! We are going to full USVTA rules for VTA & USGT so that will eliminate the 5.0 FDR in VTA. Just need to check weight, "Blinky" & motors for all classes.

Any thoughts on going to either open esc 13.5t 1/12th or maybe 10.5t blinky? ROAR rules followed?

Mainly curious as most if not all of us were running d3.5 13.5 motors last year. With ROAR banning all d3.5 spec motors we'd have to get something new anyway if you're following their rules, why not bump to something a little more fun like 10.5t?

My personal thought is that it is hard enough getting more people to join in the fun in 12th without making the learning curve harder.

Personally, I thought 13.5 open speedo was a blast as it was fast enough that you hard to hang on, especially when the track was slick. However, sometimes half the field wouldn't finish the mains and that was discouraging to many.

13.5 blinky is just slow enough for the average driver but fast enough the throttle still does something. Happy medium IMHO.

That being said Sam, I will have my backup chassis pre-loaded with a Mod 3.5 if you want to play..........

10.5t blinky would probably be the better of those two options... more torque so you'll have to use a little throttle control, but not insane top end so overall speeds won't be a whole heck of a lot higher than 13.5t.

I'm toying around with the idea of a new kit for this winter, in which case I could have a spec and mod car ready to go...

Usually we are done in the 5:00-5:30 range. The qualifying sessions start at 11:15 and usually take about an hour. Half hour break to get the mains set up and get some food and racing starts at 12:45. We've been done as early as 4:45 and as late as 6:00 depending on numbers.

As Jason said, we'll stick with 13.5 to have a better chance of bringing in more entries and to try and keep attrition to a minimum.

...any chance of a vote from the 'usual suspects' in 1/12th on motors or is it set in stone, not up for discussion?

Basically, I'm just pissed at ROAR for removing the d3.5 13.5t from their list. The 17.5t I can understand but from what I gather the 13.5t was not illegal in terms of wire diameter, it was just part of the legal settlement between Trinity and ROAR. eff that.

If I have to buy a new motor I'd rather bump to 10.5t, lol.

Sorry, ROAR only, D3.5 is history.
