Chilly, have the people in charge of this race made any administrative changes (or are planning to) for this year's event?

I think we can all agree that last year the race didn't run very smoothly, not counting the Sunday morning storm. Speaking generally, several us felt like the race organizers weren't prepared very well last year, and that really made qualifying day tough. Some changes I would like to see this year are:

1. A club race either the week before or maybe Thursday night to work out any glitches with the scoring computer before qualifying day.

2. An improved speaker / computer monitor system that will make it easier for everyone to know what race is currently running.

3. A watering and track sweeping schedule (how much and how often).

I thought the controlled practice schedule on Friday worked pretty well last year, so please keep that.

I hope you take this as constructive criticism. This event draws a lot of entries from around the region and has the potential to be one of the best events in our area each year.

Hi Derek. Yes you hit on some good points. Pretty much anything that could go wrong did last year. We went a month with no rain, then 100+ heat on Friday that blew the track out since the hired track crew was lacking proper motivation/experience, computer issues on Saturday, a hurricane overnight, followed by a flood on Sunday. Good times.

We are hiring in a race director with more experience this year that will help resolve issues #1 and #3. I definitely want to see improvements with #2 but we are somewhat limited on what we can do since the track is outside and normally the pit area is the store's parking lot. But with wireless speakers and bluetooth technology we might be able to improve the PA system. I would also like to add something to make it easier to tell what race we are on too. My vote is to hire in a ring girl that can hold a number above her head for each heat.

If you are going to do controlled practice can it be posted ahead of time so individuals know what times slots are available for their classes. Not show up at 5:45 after work and the schedule was written down at 5:00 because there were to many people and your class was done running for the evening at 6:00......

FYI currently there are about 60 entries signed up online, but only 6 have actually paid for their entry fees. When you sign up online you are prompted to pay via PayPal. A warning was sent out on Monday to all the racers signed up online who haven't paid yet. Today is your final warning so get those entries paid for otherwise your entry will get the axe tomorrow. And remember if you pay now you can always request a refund up until 7pm on 8/27/14. Thanks for your cooperation!

I'll bring it up to see what we can do to make the schedule more known in advance. Traditionally practice is open till around noon when more folks start showing up. Then we start enforcing a controlled practice for the different classes.

Thanks for the response Chilly. I'm glad to hear you've hired a new race director. Anything you guys can come up with to make it easier for the pit area to hear the announcer or have easier access to a computer monitor will help.

I'm happy to officially announce today that we have hired Sam Anderson as this year's Shootout race director and track designer. Sam has been heavily involved in the local RC scene the last few years acting as both the race director and track designer for the Electric Pit and 80/35 Raceway.

He has directed many large race events like the 80/35 Spring Classic and Iowa Outdoor Summer Series, plus he is an accomplished local racer. Sam will also be lining up an experienced, dedicated track crew to oversee track maintenance that weekend, and is a great addition to this year's Shootout!

Boxes are starting to arrive now thanks to the Shootout's many generous sponsors. Look for some sneak peeks of door prizes later this week.

CowRC is the official sponsor of the Shootout Sportsmanship award at this year's event. The award is custom jumbo (24" x 30") magnetic pit with matching vinyl. Here is a sneak peek of what that award will look like.

To earn this award a racer must go above and beyond at this year's Shootout. Who is ready to step it up at this year's race and take home this pit mat??

As promised here are some sneak peeks at some of the door prizes that will be given away at this year's Shootout.

Castle Creations is back as a sponsor again at this year's Shootout and they are hooking racers up with two Mamba Max Pro and two Sidewinder 3 ESCs. They are also giving away two 10A BECs and some vouchers for 30% or 50% off of retail purchases on their website.

One of our new sponsors for the Shootout this year is Pledge and they have donated four cans of their lemon scented cleaner. You can use this to clean your RC car or your mom's china cabinet. Whatever you decide to do with it is up to you and is great to see some more "non RC" companies stepping it up this year as an official sponsor.

Hitec is back as a sponsor for this year's Shootout and they have donated a nice charger plus some LiPo checkers and t-shirts.

Du-Bro is also back for the Shootout and they are giving away a few body scissors and reamer sets, plus some of their uniquely designed ball end links.
