Hobbyplex offroad 2011
Hey there people. Since our 2010 season has ended I've decided to go ahead and start a 2011 thread.
I wanted to share a few changes that I've been thinking of for next year...
Pro-2 and Pro-4 was a huge success, but our pro-lite class really struggled toward the end of the year.
Here is what I was thinking of doing...
For 2011, Pro-lite will go by ROAR SCT sportsman class rules with a 17.5 motor, but be limited to Traxxas tires ONLY.
This will give us a "stock" and a mod 2wd SCT class that is open to all 2wd short course trucks. The reason for the tire rule is to limit the tires to realistic tread patterns since that's all that Traxxas makes. It would be the easiest way to tech it and keep the "spirit" of what makes a SCT truck an SCT truck. Plus Traxxas treads last forever.
I would also allow any brushed motor that came with an RTR, so not to leave out those that are ready to move up from plexspec without making them buy a 17.5 system right away.
Our tech at the end of the day for the top three would still consist of tires, motor and esc.
The other change I was thinking of making was ending the Pro-20 experiment and just having it be mod truck with a ten-minute main like the rest of the traditional classes. Pro-20 was the only other class besides Pro-lite that struggled all year long. I know a few guys would run mod truck if not for the 20-minute main.
Other than that I think eveything else will stay the same as far as rules go. This last year was one of the funnest that we've ever had, so I don't want to mess with too much stuff.

I was going to suggest the Mod Truck change. It seemed like most were just running 13.5 anyway to make run time. I was attempting to make with an 8.5, and had some success when I broke down & purchased a new battery. I know in the past it has been a struggle to keep both a stock & mod truck class filled, but hopefully we can do it with a 10 minute main. I did hear a few say they would run mod if not for the 20 minute main. I think it would be encouraging for those moving up from Plex-Spec to know that some of the "fast guys" are now running mod....where personally I think they should be anyway. We had some really close races in Mod 2WD, so hopefully that will carry over to Mod Truck next year. I know I like to have the same feel in both my vehicles, that's why I didn't run SS Truck & Mod 2WD and stuck with Mod in Truck even though making 20 minutes was a struggle.

I think the 17.5 option for the pro-lite is a good idea. The reliability of the stock motors made it frustrating knowing you had to replace the motor every 2 weeks or so to stay competitive. The stock slashes are fun to drive, and making them more reliable will be good for the class.

I like the idea of changing Pro 20 to Mod Truck. I can get rid of these 13.5s finally
