Default Greetings! Is there much of a scene for 1/16?

Greetings Everyone,
I'm new to the site and to the hobby. I've played soccer my whole life (32 now), and when I was about 10, I got my first exposure to real R/C Racing... while going to a soccer game at Kennedy Park, my dad and I stopped just inside the park entrance to watch some offroad r/c racing. I was instantly hooked... I saved up a bought a used Tamiya hilux and RC10 gold chasis, but had bad luck with batteries/run times/breaking parts and never made it to the racing scene.

Fast forward to today, I started watching Traxxas TORC on HDNet and I got that same buzz for R/C. After some research, I decided to give 1/16th a try. I bought two Traxxas Slash 4wd running 7.4v 2300 mah... totally amazing experience. The trucks are tough as nails and incredibly fast.. not to mention the run times are ridiculous. I realize I'm probably speaking to the choir... but my second go-around with this hobby has been awesome.

So, in this area.. are their any R/C tracks on public land? What about store linked courses? I've seen that several people have impressive backyard tracks, but I'm sure they don't want random drivers showing up at their door on non-event days. Lastly, is there much a scene for 1/16th on-road or off-road racing?

Anyways, looking forward to meeting some of y'all at the Hobbytown lot events!
