Time for a bath
 

My trucks are really dirty, and the denatured alcohol and air compressor is just not doing the trick this time. I need to know........If I take the motor and all the electronics off, will it be alright to give em a good wash with a hose? If this is a BAD idea, I wont do it. Any advice guys, Thanks

i dont think i would do it.
just cause there would be water in places that i cannot get to, to dry off, then it would rust. i think.

Just dry it off after and a good dose of wd40 and good to go again;)

Though it is worth noting that high presure water can embed bits of dirt and grit into places they would normaly not go.

I find an old tooth brush is a great way of cleaning my RCs.

If youre using a simple garden hose and take a few other precautions, you should be fine. I take my radio tray and engine off...spray it liberally with Simple Green, hose that off real good, then use a compressor to blow dry as best I can. Next, I spray it down with WD-40, blow dry the excess off and reinstall the engine and radio tray.Of course, you will want to keep an eye on your bearings, but all in all everything should be ok.

I spray the entire chassis down ( with the radio tray/engine off of course)...especially if I know Ill be running in muddy or wet conditions. The WD-40 will help to disperse water and help to keep mud and dirt from sticking to things, making clean up afterwards easier.

obviosly you always remove the electronics and engine before you wash. i first get most of the loose stuff off with the air compressor. then i hose down the entire chassis with the highest pressure water that i can get, usually a garden hose with a nozzle. this should get most of the grime off, but there is still some dirt on the car. so, i then spray diluted simple green over the entire car and let it sit for about 5 minutes. i spray off the simple green with the water hose again, and then douse the whole car with wd-40. yes, everything. just as mentioned above, it helps to not allow dirt and mud to stick to the car, thus making it easier to clean the next time. it also prevents the plastic from drying out and becoming brittle. obviosly spray all the little nooks and crannies with oil. just as another precaution, i take out and examine the wheel bearings to make sure that i have gotten all of the water out. hope this helps.

I had a can of THIS sitting on my shelf and decided to give it a try for dispersing the mud and dirt,,it worked very good. I used it to coat the frame and underfenders on my bike to keep the NW mud from sticking and made cleanup a breeze, usually just hoseing it off with water.

I guess I'm a bit lazy, I use the Niro force cleaner in a can (22 oz) for the cleanup work. You need to be careful of course due to the fact that weather you use water and a hose or a nitro cleaner you run the risk of blasting the bearings full of water or washing the bearing lube out with the cleaner.

Offroad (monsters and buggy) guys over here just take an air compressor and normal gasoline ... take the engine apart and cover the electronics in balloons ... and spray all over ... just that ...

After that blow air to dry and spray WD40 all over the model ...

this prob wasnt the smartest thing to do, but all i rapped was the reciever box, its always wrap in plastic so it never gets dirty then i took my truck muddin, mud higher than the tires.... this is what it looked like

with the body on i took a pressure washer too it and just soaked it, got all the mudd off pretty much and then i took it apart and cleaned it really well with nitro force and paper towls.... the ez start and servos and everything are fine. nothing got ruined... how ever my friends revo ez start motor quit working... but that shouldnt have been caused by the water, it was prob just a freak accident, since water doesnt hurt a magnet.

so bascially my tip, is cover your reciever box in sarran wrap or something so its always clean. the servos should be pretty much water proof, mine have been thru A LOT of water and they are still the stock servos that came on the truck. you can also wrap the ez start too if you want.

NICE! i wish i had enough courage to do that! i bet mud got into his ez starter, got on the motor brushes or something. :nod:
