Default controller for mgt for local races

I am looking for a new fm system for running my mgt. I do plan to do some racing at the local track. I want to spend $100-200 for the setup. The less money I spend on the controller the more I can spend on the truck. Is there really that big a difference in the fm systems that use crystals?

Also, One mag says the steering servo is very good then another mag says it needs a little more...Should I get a radio with a great servo for the steering?
