Default 2016 Update...Biggest, Baddest 1/8 MT on the Market

Been looking for a new monster truck... So many options these days...can you guys weigh in on best based on: (1)Is it the biggest? (2)Will it break the least? (3) Does it come with a good system? (4) How is aftermarket support(online or LHS)?

Options I've been eyeing...
Thunder Tiger K Rock
Ofna Hyper MTe
Associated Rival
Axial Yeti XL
Losi XXL2e
Xmaxx(I know, not 1/8)
Kyosho FOXX Ve

Seems the XXL2e is the biggest next to the XMaxx? Ideas, suggestions? Trying to shorten up my short list. EMaxx, Savage and Revo aren't on there because I think we all know those trucks and know they are great!

Cross the yeti xl out.
The list of problems with it are longer than what I care to type. But I'll type this. I owned 1 25 days. Of that I got to run it 9 days. Otherwise waiting on parts or fixING it.
The yeti xl is so bad I couldn't bring myself to sell it to someone else. Plus nobody wanted it.
I kept the electronics and acutely thru it in the trash. Where it belonged.

The losi gets my vote.
Awesome rc.
Spare parts would be.
Steer tierods but I'm still learning.
Frt and rear bumpers.
That's it.
Shim the diffs and loctite the set screws- all of them.
That's it.
It's 1 tough truck.

XXL2e is high on my list, but does it have many upgrades available...and can you drop a bigger motor in? The stock heat sink/motor mount worries me bc i will want to switch that out for bigger

I had the time, here goes...just looking at the "size" of things, given that there are other things to consider, but the results were surprising(outside of the X-Maxx).

Length/Width(mm)
Traxxas X-Maxx: 758/540
Thunder Tiger Kaiser e-MTA: 627/454
Thunder Tiger e-MTA G2: 620/445
Thunder Tiger K-Rock: 617/416
Team Associated Rival MT: 595/450
Team Losi XXL2e: 584/470
HPI Savage Flux XL: 580/445
Traxxas E-Maxx: 571/419
Ofna Hyper MTe: 560/432
Kyosho Psycho Kruiser: 550/427
Exceed Mad Beast: 546/403
Kyosho Foxx/Mad Force: 545/383
Iron Track E8MTL: 540/415
Traxxas E-Revo: 525/426

The stock XXL2e motor mount can accomodate up to 42mm diameter motors but there's nothing stopping you from going longer than the stock 74mm long motor. If you head to Overkill's thread about his Tekno buggy he's got a powerful TP motors 40/42mm diameter motor (I forget the length) in his truggy that'll be a big upgrade on power.

If you want to go with a larger diameter motor (Castle 1717 for example) you'll need an aftermarket mount. But the XXL2e chassis has a different bolt pattern for the motor mount (it's also in a slightly different spot on the chassis) than all other LST's and nobody makes one for it yet. So if you really wanted to use an aftermarket mount you'd also need a XXL or XXL2 chassis and side rails as well which are pretty cheap from the chop shops. Just bolt on everything you need from the XXL2e along with the aftermarket motor mount and power system of your choice.

XXL2e would be my first choice followed by the Rival. The Rival may be more of a pain to install larger diameter motors, nebsr looked that close and its 4s max with the stock electronics. I'd look into parts availibility for the Thunder Tigers as their distribution in the US got funky recently and people have been complaining about getting MT4 G3 parts. Ofna I believe is no more and the reviews I've seen on the MTe weren't that great, bent chassis, lots of broken rod ends etc.

^^^yup...trying to find a home for my 1717 and XL2.

So...we've established which is the biggest, baddest is subjective...which has the most upgrade support? Obviously the Traxxas lineup will get the most love on that side of things, but the rest; I don't know if aftermarket companies will want to do anything for or not??? Seems like slim pickings for Upgrades these days for anyone but traxxas or racer boys.

IMO a Savage build using Alza centre mount and at the very least FLM TVP's or the equivalent make a great base platform for a 1717 & XL2 setup... Just my opinion though. I hear great things about the XXL2e but I see it more as a truggy, not a true monster truck, so it depends on what you want. Is a truggy base with a truck body enough, or do you want something that screams more truck...

Another vote for the Losi. I have an XXL I converted. It's my basher and I treat it that way. It is very durable. I assume the aftermarket support is pretty good, but it really isn't needed.

Sounds a lot like what I have going on right now. FLM bulkheads, TCS XL chassis, Alza center diff. Not quite running yet but I'm expecting great things when I'm finished.

Yep, if you want monster truck and monster power it is a pretty good base. You going to run stock suspension arms or RPM?

Sounds like a close tie between the savage and XXL2...I'm coming out of Muggy/XXL hybrid that I'll be retiring, so that platform is semi familiar. To that end, I know how hard it is to find good upgrades for the Losi trucks these days, and in looking at stuff for the Savage, I'm not finding much for that either outside of FLM, TCS, Intejunk and RPM. Tight race....

And then an ad popped up on Craigslist for an XMaxx............decisions must be made.
