I have a redcat earthquake 3.5 and im new to the rc universe. Im looking to replace my tie rods and turn buckles with stronger parts. Mine are plastic and redcat does not offer upgrades. How do i know or find out what size the tie rods are? I see plenty of companies that offer what im looking for, but i dont know the size or threads. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not familiar with redcat rc stuff, but with turnbuckles usually you only need to worry about the length and as long as the diameter is close the threads don't really matter because the plastic ends don't get threaded until you screw the tie rod into it. Titanium ones are the way to go. I have never bent one of my J.Concepts Finn turnbuckles.

I want to upgrade to aluminum tie rod ends, but i dont know if they are m3 or whatever.

Oh well sorry I'm prob not much help with monster truck stuff, but if they are metric prob m3's if standard prob 440.

Something to consider. Tie rod ends may be the weak link now but if you upgrade them something else is going to be the weak link and break instead. Especially if the rest of the front end is stock.

Personally I'd skid aluminum rod ends, I don't like parts with metal on metal and you might not get the thread size right the first time. I'd look into another manufacturers plastic ends as they create threads when installed like tommy said. Traxxas Rustler VXL tie rod ends look to be about the same size and would be beefier. If you have a hobby shop local comparing parts would be your best bet. And any place with a decent hardware section has those thread checkers that tell you exactly what threads you have on your tie rods.

We only have 2 shops nearby, one shop sells the brand but has little or no parts and very little knowledge, the other acts as if you're a red headed step child cause you bought a red cat product and really doesn't make the effort in trying to help. Both places are 30 to 35min drives. Big pain the butt.

The only reason i wanted to upgrade is mainly to put less stress on the ball n socket area to do alignment adjustments to the suspension, and to tighten up any play in the ball n socket ends, not really strength issues. The truck is pretty solid and durable

So do i measure the turnbuckles outer diameter to determine if it's a m3 ect.?
