Axial yeti XL 1/8th scale

Upgraded Steering Servo and put on a slightly longer horn. Shaved out the chassis a little bit to make room for the horn to travel. The hubs and other links all supported the additional travel just fine. Turns much better now. A metal Ackerman and links would also help. A Castle BEC is getting installed tomorrow next so I can run the Hitec 7950TH at 7.4V.

True scale is not based on electronics or diff size
It's directly related to the overall size and dimensions
10th scale refers to One tenth of the full size
So the Yeti XL, in my book, is a 6th scale buggy
Wheels: Officially licensed Raceline Monster wheels, 3.8"
(3.8 x 8 = 30.4" full size in true 8th scale)
(3.8 x 6 = 22,8" full size in true 6th scale)
Tires: BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX 2.9 x 7.25"
(23.2" x 58" .....full size in true 8th scale)
(17,5" x 43,5" ...full size in true 6th scale)
Have you ever seen a 58" tall BFGoodrich Krawler T/A KX ??

3.8" (formerly known as 40 series) wheels have been around for a very long time. They are 1/8 scale monster truck wheels. They were discontinued many years ago. I've run them on 1/10 and 1/8 scale rc's, but that did not make them transform into 1/6 scale rc's. I have put a golf cart body on an 1/8 scale monster truck, but that did not transform it into a 1/4 scale rc. It's still just a 1/8 monster truck with a different shell.
If you take the plastic cage off top of the Yeti XL, you are left with a solid rear axle 1/8 monster truck. Call it what you want, whether that be 1/6 rock racer, 1/6 buggy, 1/8 monster buggy... If you put a solid rear axle on a Savage Flux XL, it would be in the exact same category as the Yeti XL. You could then put a Yeti XL body on the solid rear axle Savage Flux XL and call it a 1/6 buggy, but it's still just an 1/8 scale Savage.
Maybe it's 1/6 "true scale" when set up as a rock racer and you are only talking about body/wheels/tires, but after you remove the body it is just a 1/8 scale monster truck underneath. People, don't fool yourself into thinking the Yeti XL you ordered for $700+ of your hard-earned dollars will be nearly as beefy as a Baja/Rampage/DBXL/5ive/etc because the class of all components of this rc is 1/8 scale. NOT 1/6 scale. I will not respond to any more comments regarding scale, because I think I have made my opinion very clear.

The Yeti XL is an RC version of an Ultra4 Rock Racer. The average length of a U4 Rock Racer is ~160 inches. The Yeti XL is 25.75 inches.
160/25.75 = 6.21 hence the 1/6th
The tires on the Yeti XL are disproportionately large to the chassis length compared to the proportionals on a U4. From a visual standpoint, which is the typical reference of scale, 1/6th is more accurate. However, Axial was wise to call it 1/8th because they would have been roasted calling it a 1/6th scale and putting typical 1/8th scale powerplant in it.
Keep in mind though that RC powerplants obviously have NOTHING to do with scale because no U4 is going to do 300+ mph .

funny thing is that HPI called there Savage 5SC Flux 1/5 scale and its powerplant is appears to be the same as what the Yeti has.
I think what its called for scale ultimately doesn't matter too much, how it performs does.
They look very cool, I do hope to see a group of people racing this sometime.

Finally got my video of this thing working, YouTube was being a pain. Just some 4S stock bashing though.

Just a bit of advice. Make sure you shim your diffs. If you have been running it hard without the shims, there will be some wear and chipping teeth. I only did one run (3 sets of batteries) and the diffs were not seriously damaged, but there was some wear and small chips in the teeth. Another guy here, had chains on his and ran it really hard. His front crown gear is almost destroyed. All of this was only 4S too.

I've read some negative remarks about the Yeti XL, from guys that don't even have one. Maybe it's not for everyone, especially the guys comparing it to a truggy. I thought, at first, "What would I do with it?" since I am not really into bashing. My main interest is truggy racing and I was into the scale 1/10 trailing too, but grew board of it. After a day in the trails jumping, hill climbing, and drifting through tight trails, I love this rig. It's exactly what I wanted in a winter R/C. Now my son wants one too.
So for the guys who say they don't like it, go ahead and talk trash about it and don't buy one. It's either not for you, or you will be missing something great and won't even know it.

Sway bay
Has anyone installed the aforementioned AX31029 sway bar? I'm curious how it installs and if it provides any real control of the dramatic twisting between the rear axle and the chassis.
