When you remove the 1st gear spur this is what you'll see.
If you rotate the spur at this point you'll see the 2nd gear hub it's attached to rotate while the clutch shoes and the 2nd gear cam in the center of them don't move. There was a user here who drilled a couple holes in the 2nd gear hub and put some screws through it into the clutch shoes locking them together.
On my nephews truck I went a different and permanent route since it's staying brushless. I removed the clutch shoes, covered the holes in the 2nd gear hub, made sure the hub was fully seated on the 2nd gear cam, and on a flat surface filled the 2nd gear hub with JB Weld. The cam and hub are now permanently locked together but 2 speed assemblies aren't that expensive on ebay if you really wanted to convert it back. The brown stuff where the clutch shoes used to be is the JB Weld.

which jb weld did you use?

Jb welded up one works fine, I ran one for a long time.

nice. figured i'd try the jb weld before spending $40+$8 shipping for the dude single speed conversion. can't find the losi one anywhere. looking forward to all my conversion parts coming. should be a fun project.
