Default Issues with HPI Savage XL

So I just took out my new to me Savage XL and it won't stay running unless the wheels are off the ground. If I pull the cord while all 4 wheels are on the ground it surges forward.

Also it will not roll backwards if I pull it with all 4 wheels on the ground.

This isn't normal right?

Any ideas what the issue may be?

2 speed tranny.

"New to me" means second hand? If so it sounds like either a diff or the clutch is busted.

I would definitely check the clutch, in fact it's probably a good idea to inspect the entire drive train if you haven't already. Buying a second had basher is always a gamble, I've been burnt before.

It should roll backwards, but if your clutch is engaging because the idle is too high, then it will want to go forward as you suggested. Either way, checking the clutch would help. You can tell a lot from the wear, though I don't know if it's new or not.

If it is in fact the clutch its engaged all the time.

The truck doesn't roll backwards. Even with the truck not running.

I will check out the clutch tonight.

Thanks all!
