Gearing Question
Hey guys,
Builidng an E-LST XXL and having question regarding pinions. I plan on using the stock spur with a Tekin Gen2 2250KV combo and TDR single hub. What should I be looking at for pinion tooth size? Pitch? |
Pitch is Mod1. Tooth count depends on other factors like how many cell Lipo you're going to run? Tire size? I know you said E-XXL, but does the trans actually have XXL bevels in it? Generally with that kv on 4s you want 22-25t on the pinion with the stock 63t spur.

On 4s with the 2250kv motor and 25/63 on stock tires you'll be at 42mph, factor in some tire ballooning and you're over 45mph. Personally I'd start here with your motor to make sure temps are good before gearing up any higher. Pinions should in 25t mod1 are available lots of places, Losi makes one, so does Robinson Racing, and many others. All my pinions are either. Robinson or RC-Monster but I have a couple AE and they make some nice mod1. Not sure if AE makes a 25t though.

Another question...do you rig up a fan for cooling the motor?
|
When geared like my above post I doubt you'll ever need a fan. My nephews LST is on 4s geared very similar and the Castle 2200kv is fine temp wise on all but the hottest (90F+) days. I know you have a Tekin but they are similar kv and more importantly similar in size so your results should be similar. His truck has the old style LST1 version of the Claw tires which are heavier, plus the motor is well used so if anything his would get hotter than your Tekin. I had a Castle blower lying around so I put it on mostly for insurance since an 11yr old won't check temps.

Cool thanks OD!

I dont know if it was just me but I had issues with trans after converting....long story short, a FOC was needed for the fix.
|
My nephews truck started as a LST1 with the Hi/Low and reverse trans. I had to remove the servos to mount the battery tray so initially I tied the reverse arm on the trans to the chassis with wire to keep it in forward. This didn't work well as it would pop out of forward and hang in between forward and reverse no matter how tight it was tied. Occasionally the Hi/Low selector would do the same thing even though the knob is spring loaded to lock it.
The gears in the trans can take the power of brushless without issue. But the selector rings that switch and transfer power to those gears don't seem to stay locked with brushless. I was cheap with this truck and did my own FOC. I removed the reverse and low gears, then using JB Weld I locked the selector rings together and to the shaft to keep it in Forward and Hi gear. |
hell i'm still using the 2speed and wow! it lifts the front end when it shifts!strong enough as its been on for hours of full blasts!
