Your thoughts on red thread lock?
I have a diff that was built with three pieces. The ring gear, the center case and the outside cover. Its hard to get thread lock on the screws considering you have to stick them through a diff full of oil for them to pull the whole thing together. What if I were to put a drop on the screw head? They are countersunk so there is plenty of area to bond too. Would it be easier or harder to remove?
I used blue on my almuminum bulks and it didnt seem to have that great of holding strength. |
On a counersakn screw I would try the green/cylindrical loctite.

I dont know if that would make it down into the threads on these tiny machine screws, not to mention the threads are probably covered in oil.

Locktite has their thread lock in a paste form that comes in a tube like chapstick. Because its a paste it will stay on the screws better.
I'm assuming you got the Ofna Spyder diffs? Never had them, they look like stout pieces, but don't look fun to put together. Do they have a grub screw in the diff case to fill from after you put them together like other Ofna diffs? If not I'd stand them up with the screws facing up and put the cap they thread into on last. You could cut a hole in a cardboard box so just the screws rest on the box to keep them from falling out while you fill it. |
No grub screw. Overdrive, thats a good idea but I already had the diff together and filled. I plugged the holes on one side from the outside with random screws and removed them one by one to put it together. After assembling it, I backed each screw out a couple turns and applied some red thread lock. Hopefully it stays together!

Was it possible to put some into the thread where the screw goes into?
