Default Mini e revo vxl (merv) servo help

Hello all,

I have had a merv for a while now but I bought it then didnt use it and now am getting back into it. The stock servo is stripped and I have tried 2 hitec 82mg's from my local hobby store and both have just buzzed and gotten really warm. I think it might have something to do with analog and digital and I need a new servo. I like the speed of the stock servo but it is now stripped as I said. So what I am asking is should I just buy a new gear set for the stock one or should I buy a new one(I would like it to be waterproof, I can waterproof it with liquid electric tape but that voids the warranty)

Regards, Jackson

P.S. mods if this is in the wrong place feel free to move it

i would buy a new stock servo or 2, i personally stopped burning servos out in my 1/16 when i started to run dual servos, ive had gears strip out, melt, even stop working completely all together, toss it and buy new ones.

My son had a minirevo that had the aluminium steering linkage, and put two new Traxxas servos on, 2070's I think, had a wreck and destroyed one right off the bat, stripped gears. Come to find out the aftermarket linkage with their servo saver was the cause. Not sure which brand. The part that slips, kind of like a 3908 servo saver setup, was to steep (the two opposing pieces) and the shock was passing to the servo. He replaced that with a stock setup and didn't have anymore problems until he sold it. Stripping usually happens running oversize 2.2 tires and wheels with more offset. More stress on the linkage and servo.

Cartwheels are usually the kiss of death for them lol. Slams the front wheels back and forth during the roll.

Allow me to throw my two bits into this:

Do not, do not, replace the stock servo, with another stock servo. The traxxas mini WP servo's are extremely unreliable. They short out, they have weak gears that love stripping, etc.
At your soonest monetary expense, upgrade to a metal gear servo. Hitec, some Solar servo, anything! Everything is better than the stock traxxas servo's. Both with power and reliability.

Just stick a high torque MG servo in this truck, and it solves the steering problem. Not the slop in the steering assembly, but the actual servo issue.

I know this is an old post but wanted to put my 2 cents in since there have been numerous upgrades such as aluminum servo horns and aluminum steering assemblies replacing the stock tra7043 hardware. The stock servos are good if you are running a dual servo setup. I have been through several servos to include the hitec 82 and 85mg, both of which are analog, and a digital hextronik d-mg16 servo. The hs-82mg didn't seem to like the stock receiver, I was told because it wasn't digital which is weird since the hs-85mg worked just fine. While using the stock servo, I did strip out the gears on a couple occasions, Traxxas customer support was great and replaced my stripped servos, and when I switched to the metal gear servos, I began breaking the arm on the servo saver. I switched to the gpm aluminum steering assembly and then wrecked my hs-85mg servo. I now run dual stock servos with the aluminum steering assembly and it works great. Haven't had a problem since.
