I'm not sure which HPI 17mm kit you're referring to but the LST/aftershock stub axles are different from the Savage. The drive pin is further away from the knuckle on the LST/aftershock, using a Savage kit would require shims between the knuckle and the hex adapter. Also keep in mind the reverse threads on the one side of the truck. Using the 17mm savage hex with those big wheel nuts or any kit using barrel nuts, wouldn't work with the reverse threads unless you swap the reverse thread stub axles for normal thread ones. If you have an LST2 or XXL you can use almost any 17mm hex for a buggy or Truggy, I stuck with Losi and used one for the 8ight on my XXL.

Something to keep in mind also. I found that I needed to use 1/2" extended hexes with my Axial 40 series wheels and Trenchers to match the width of the stock Losi XXL tires and wheels.

I used Mugen hubs on mine. Had to shim them with several shims at each hub - forgot the shim size.. Some weird size..

If Mugen works, then yeah, most buggy/truggy hexes should work. As stated, just might need to shim them some..

Associated btw makes extended ones for their bugs and trugs..

LST2's didn't come with 17mm hubs, but 20mm.

But yes, you can take any 17mm hubs, and some shims to fit the LST2 axle (I assume you have an LST2?)...

I bought the Losi original kit to convert my Muggy to 17mm from 20mm (Same parts as LST2). Easy stuff.
