Clod Buster Availability

Hey guys; I'm unsure how many of you are running monster trucks these days, but I have a question about the Clod Buster. I bough the classic red Clod back in 2004, but sold it two years ago after it saw no use; I'm kind of wanting one again to complement my E-Maxx, but am only seeing the Super Clod Buster at over $300; the classic guy back in 2004 was just over $200.

Is this just the deal, or are there retailers offering it at lower prices? $300 feels kind of expensive, although I could pick one up on E-Bay or post a WTB in the market section here.

They were only $225 at my local Hobby Town last time I looked, but that was over a year ago. I haven't seen them for more than that. I think the super clod is ugly, I have the original bowtie clod from 1989 that is brand new.

Unfortunately those are $599 on ebay in new condition so you are better with the super clod for $299.

I am not 100% sure, but I think the new clod comes with a electronic speed controller. That's why the price is up.
Went racing last weekend, had a great time..

The Super Clodbuster DOES in fact come with an ESC now.

OSRC 01-17-2013 10:17 AM

They did go up in price quite a bit even before the ESC was included (most Tamiya's have actually) Though, since I added a $100 ESC, it guess it evens out.

Mine was $239 a few years ago. If you're a Tower member, they are currently $279 to your door. Not too bad.

Since we're talking clods... :) Some older pics.

Yeah, that's pretty much what you're looking at for pricing. I didn't bother buying a new Clod, instead I built up a Dual Brushless runner. SO MUCH more fun than a stock clod.

I'm running a Clodzilla 4 chassis with front aluminum knuckles, 14mm adapters/extenders, 3.8" Proline 40 Masher Tires. Dual Toro/Trackstar 60amp esc's with 3300KV motors each esc powered by a 5500mah 2S Lipo.

I put a USA1/Clod size tire in between the tires for size reference

I didn't think it would turn that well, but it handled surprisingly well. I realized it's an entirely different driving style so that'll take a little getting used to but wow. Jumps awesome, doesn't roll over. One of the guys at the track thinks it handles better than his emaxx LOL.

I think I'm going to have to go up to around 16 teeth on the pinion. It's got MORE than enough torque (even to the point of turning the punch all the way down and the motors not even feeling warm after 15 minutes) and the top speed was...meh.

Nice trucks, Revo-lution, Jimmy, OSRC, and Scottjir.

I'm in Illinois, but despite paying taxes, Tower's free shipping and a $20 coupon garners me the best deal I've found thus far at $337. Is anyone aware of a better deal?

Here is a pick of another racing clod. Runs on carpet.
Its the current points leader in the RCMTC Michigan series.. Runs very well.

I took the plunge into a new chassis and bought the Super Clod Buster; it'll get the waterproof Traxxas EVX-2 and servos from my brushless E-Maxx 3903. It should arrive by Wednesday at which point I'll start posting some pics!

i love clods, all shapes and sizes. such an iconic rc.

my dual brushless cpe terminator clod i built for the rtmtcny a couple of years ago:

Complete! A Highlift Hilux body originally mounted for my E-Maxx is putting in work on the Clod Buster now, and it looks really sharp. I got the steering aligned and took it out for a few minutes, and it literally brought a smile to my face - just seeing it bounce around, lazily careen through corners, and casually tromp over grass and curbs in a relaxed manner was too much fun.

Here are my two monsters!
