It might not have been weak screw but loose ones. Say they loosened just a hair and caused some slop in the ring gear, then when torque was applied the ring gear would put pressure on the screws. Then no torque no pressure. On and off like a hammer pounding a nail. Until they snapped. Smell what I am stepping in? I would put a bit of loctite on them.

Definitely if they were not the right length they would not have enough bite in to the case. I have seen it happen on 1:1 stuff. Its no different in these. Loctite will not hurt.

ok i put the new gearbox in the rear. then i put the engine back on, the arms, skids, bulkheads. so the rear is all buttoned up. now i need to get one more integy blue aluminum gearbox for the front. some online company's is saying late april until they get some in  i really dont want to wait 5-6 weeks to get my t maxx finished up  after i do get the gearbox for the front i can put everything in front back together and throw the cage back on. then outside to test it out. i hope everything goes good!

last night i browsed around online again for that gearbox and on rc planet it said in stock. so i e mailed them last night and they responded today saying yes we have it in stock. so i ordered it and now i will have my second gearbox. it will probably get here early next week. i will update after i get it!

The simplest answer is probably the right answer.
When the guy at your LHS swapped out for the "shiny" screws, he put in screws that were made of a softer alloy. They probably can't handle the stress the diffs are subjected to. You're probably better off ordering some good quality, hardened steel screws that fit your application. (12.9 grade or something like that) Check out Tony's Screws or Hexcrews for them. |
