What's your price range? If price is not a concern then the Castle 1717 with the Mamba Monster ESC running 6S is the best combo.

Another good less expensive combo is the Castle 1515 (2200Kv) with the Mamba Monster ESC running 4S. This was the combo I ran in mine and it worked great.

Check out LST forums and read some threads there they have plenty of good information.

Also, check this thread here on RC Tech for a good 1717 build:

Thanks for that I will look into it , any particular charger I should be looking at

What charger depends on your budget. You can get a decent PSU and charger unit from Hobbypartz for less than $200.

Or, you can go top shelf and get a Hyperion charger for $300+ and a PSU for $100+.

There's no way I'd spend 200$ on a charger at your point. Since you are just getting in to the Brushless/Lipos setups, I'd go with an economical and good charger. You can always upgrade later if you decide you really want to spend big bucks. Hobby Partz makes several good chargers. Personally, the things I'd look for are one that can work on AC and DC (with a built in converter, not one where you have to buy it extra), a built in cooling fan, and all the normal functions of a charger (charge, balance charge, discharge, storage charge). Needs to be able to do 1S-6S and charge at a decent rate (you don't want to have to wait for two hours every time you charge your battery).

Check this one out, it is a good bargain and has good reviews. I use this charger myself and it works great. No problems so far with it.

Hyperion chargers and the BEST imo, so if you want the best then get a 200-300$ Hyperion. Keep in mind that if you buy from Hobby Partz, the Customer Service is notoriously crappy.

EDIT: Make sure you read all the instructions and read up on Lipos before you use it. Lipos can be VERY dangerous. You can burn your house down or burn your whole car up if you do not follow the proper precautions and procedures for Lipo battery charging. You should take this seriously. While I agree LiPos have the potential to be dangerous, the "alarm bells" for them tend to be a bit overstated sometimes.

People are using LiPos daily in cellphones, laptops, drills, saws, etc. Nobody at Best Buy urges you to charge your Laptop in a fireproof bag...

That being said, it is critical to know what you're doing with LiPos and understand the way they work. These aren't your older brother's NiCads.

Once you know how to properly care for them and maintain them, they are as safe as any other electrical device in your house. Proper care and maintenance is always important with electricity. Because of the abuse they are subject to and extreme conditions they operate in, the margin for error in your truck's LiPo's is less than your cellphone, but you're not on the ragged edge of disaster with normal use, either.

I have a brushless lst2, and i'm currently running the mamba monster system with the 2200kv motor on 5s and it works very well. Make sure you shim the diffs very well.

This is the charger i am using, and it works great. i would never spend $200 on a charger when i can do the same thing for less.

Then this power supply
http://www.hobbypartz.com/77p-g350-powersupply.html

I use hobbyking or hobbypartz lipos

LaTuFu 12-27-2011 01:56 PM

I also use the G350 power supply. I pair it up with (2) Dynam DC6 chargers.

I can balance charge a 2s 8200 mAh from LVC in about 90 minutes-2 hours.

Thanks for all the help but I am trying to buy a charger that I can use down at the track and charge off my car as well as using it at home plugged in to the wall socket so I'm really after a ac/dc charger that has its own power supply so I don't have to buy a separate power supply to run it

LaTuFu 12-28-2011 06:35 AM

If you can run a charger off of a power supply, you can run it off of your car. They are 12v DC as well...
