Brushless Emaxx FLM Build/ Advice Thread

Okay so i traded a short course roller for the emaxx roller and have since put on a hobbyking 120amp esc and turnigy 2200kv motor. Took it out to begin with and this thing rips, I am having blast with it. Did a little bashing and ended up breaking the rear bulkheads, a shock, and destroying a diff. So i rebuilt the diff and put aluminum bulkheads on the rear which broke to begin with. Took it out to the skatepark today and did a couple of jumps and you know how it is when everyone is like ewww and awww you go bigger. Needless to say the rear bulks did there job and snapped the chassis bringing us to where we are at now.
here are a few pics

Ok so i am looking for advice, i wan this truck to be a true basher and here is the list of parts i have in plan so far. Please give me your advice on anything and if you would change any parts i have picked out that have not been ordered.

Parts List

1. FLM Chassis (ordered)
2. FLM Hybrid bulheads
3. hyper 7 diffs
4. RC-Monster output shafts
5. new shocks (need advice)
6. drivetrain (need advice)

Please help steer me in the right direction to get it right the first time, the only thing that is set in stone at the moment is the chassis because i already ordered it. I could also use some help on the diffs, I have searched and read a lot but just wan to make sure i order everything i need at once so if somene has done this please chime in.

Can you give me a total parts list to convert it that way. I saw you had a post looking for some bearings to make it work. Also what diffs are you running and what cups did you go with on the diffs. Thanks for the help

Get flm chassis
Flm hybrids
Hyper 7. Diff with ue outdrive cups
Cvds ft/rr(traxxas,mip,ue)(depends on what knuckles you have) with center cvds(traxxas)
4 or 8 ue shocks

you would use these diffs over the hybrids,do you have any experience with them because i have also looked that route but thought the 1/8 scale diffs would be overall stronger. Not doubting you in any way, thats what i want is thoughts, advice and actual experience. thanks

The bearings don't fit perfect but they work fine, also a washer between the hex and the axle carrier will take the slop out and I used the hyper 7 diffs as well and did not need the rcm cups that I bought

moondoggie 12-18-2011 11:31 AM

so did you just use the stock cups that came with the diffs, sorry for all the questions, i am going to order everything next week and just want some input to make sure i get it all at once.

Also what is your opinion on the aluminum arms are they just bling or will they last to some serious bashing.

You won't be disappointed with the flm chassis. I have a basher truck with that chassis and it works great.

For shafts I run the traxxas cvd's and they have held up great.

For cups I run ue cups around the entire truck. They are the best you can buy IMO.

For diffs I run ue ultralites. There expensive and hard to find, but well worth it IMO.

If your going to upgrade the towers look at ue knuckle head towers. They are great and you can't beat the price on them.

Good luck with build and keep us updated.

any ideas on shocks, this truck will definatley see its fair share of 10ft or higher drop offs. i have a skatepark near by and am not afraid to send this thing a flying.

Mustang63 12-18-2011 01:51 PM

Yep just used the stock cups that came on the diffs, my truck can take a serious beating, I hit a tree at full throttle on 5s and didnt break or bend a single thing

blazerss 12-18-2011 01:51 PM

Personally I run proline power strokes on mine, but i never bash it that hard and they are hard to come by. I have ran the traxxas big bores and they were surprisingly decent. My advice would be to stay away from integy shocks and the aluminum shocks you buy off eBay. I've had experience with most of them and they are just horrible shocks. Ue makes good shocks as well.

Mustang63 12-18-2011 01:53 PM

If you get the UE Supershocks, I would also reccomend getting the UE Motherlode for spare shock parts
