Tmaxx going brushless

My 2.5 has been hanging collecting dust for about 5 years with a busted engine, I considered buying a new engine for it, but nitro is just too much hassle, so no more nitro we are going brushless.
I have most everything that I need to buy/do already worked out (Single speed conversion, FOC conversion, motor plate) my question is will a brushless 4074 motor be too much for the Tmaxx tranny? It already has MIP CVDs and shafts.
And if it's too much what would be a suitable alternative for it?
Thanks in advance guys.

Here is what I'm looking at

I converted an older 3906 last year and by the time I was done upgrading the entire driveline to handle the power it would've been cheaper just to by a whole new truck. You'll need a rc-monster pinion, metal spur gear, metal gears in your tranny, beefy steel drive shafts and cups, 1/8th scale heavy duty diff gears and cups, and fattest revo axles you can find (and lots of them). I think the only thing left stock on my truck are the bumpers..

thanks for the quick responses guys, I think other than an ESC, motor and Traxxas tranny parts (FOC, SSC) I'm not looking to plunk down a lot of $$$ on this project. I'm willing to compromise on the motor to keep it within what it can handle as is.

Converting a Tmaxx 2.5 to electric anything is too much hassle. After everything is said and done you could have yourself a .21TM in it probably for lots less. Break it in and it's a "set it and forget it" engine. They hold a tune very well. Going "E" you will have to pull the tank, move a bunch of things around to fit the packs, buy the packs, buy the motor mount ETC. ETC.

FWIW I seen a 550 can Medusa make gear salad out of a weak Tmaxx tranny. You want to put a 1/8 scale motor in it. Good luck whatever you do.

I converted my 3.3 a little over a month ago. Not very difficult, I am using an 1/8 system as well. Still running strong...

@ SloRacer1080 I saw your vids, pretty cool! Nice job!

@ got_nitro, I haven't had time for any R/C in a very long time. I just recently decided to dust off my equipment and see what works. With my electric stuff I just replaced a couple of dead packs and that's it I'm back running, With The Maxx, I wanted to get it running but I don't really care for all the extra maintenance associated with nitro.
Wrenching on my cars and making custom parts is part of what makes this hobby fun for me, I'm not intimidated by having to break out my Dremel, I look forward to it. Thanks for the encouragement though.

Just a heads up, mines not running too well anymore... lol
First gear is completely toast :p. I'll be getting Robinson Racing gears soon.

The amount of money it's going to cost to replace them with RRP gears, your about 1/2 way there to a nice new race Truggy roller in the box.;)

i got the rrp tranny gear set on ebay for $80 shipped.

:weird:They must have gotten cheaper over the last couple of years. Either way, still too much money to dump in a tmaxx just to convert it to handle a BL motor's torque IMO. Plastic still makes sense to replace it with "IMO" being the turn over rate I'm seeing with these things because of boredom and age.

I don't mind throwing some money at it. $80 to know I don't have to tear into the trans again is worth it to me. It's also a fairly new truck, only got it last April (2010) And for some reason I have a thing for the Maxx series. This is the 5th one I've owned, I sold off all my others (to this day I regret selling my all green HCR truck), and I have no intention of getting rid of this one anytime soon.

This thread makes me want to attempt a brushless conversion on my tmaxx. Its a bashing monster but when I had the cage off I was screwing around, long story short I need a new os21tm crankcase... sucks that the engine is only a half gallon old. I just wonder what KV i would need to move a full FLM aluminum truck minus the chassis. It also has the heavy duty cage, full rrp wide ratio FOC trans, all 6 mip axles. Only plastic on it right now is the cases, turnbuckle ends, and carriers. I do have a full set of FLM carriers sitting in packages though. What do you guys think?
