Engine just stopped
 

I was driving my LST today and it flipped over. It was far away and when I got to it it was revving real high. I drove it about 300 feet and it just shut off. I removed the glow plug and the wiring is pushed into the glow plug. The plug was brand new. Now the engine wont even turn over.

You mean its locked up or it wont start? It was likely revving high from a lack of fuel while it was turned over. This is a lean condition and can cause the plug to burn out. A new plug should fix it right up, but are you saying the engine wont spin over when you try to start it? If so, you need to pull the head and see if you can tell what the problem is.

I just took apart the hole engine and it is blown. The glow plug coils are pushed all the way back into the plug and one side of the piston is all scratched and flat. There is a few pieces of metal inside. I was hoping I could get the rest of the year out of it but I guess not.

I think it is. It's also very hard for me to push the piston to the top of the sleeve where it should normally go. The engine is almost 6 years old with no maintanece so I think it just got tired. I only had a bout 6 gallons through it.

Dude, if you put 6 gallons-through a LOSI engine-with NO maintainance-then you should get an AWARD!!!:lol::lol::lol:

Lot's of use can make skirts brittle, easier to crack.. Too much heat makes them prematurely brittle as well. Pistons dont go all the way to the top of a sleeve, you should see a TDC (top dead center) ring on the skirt where the piston top's out. Beyond that it will be hard to push but if it gets hard to push before the TDC ring, you still had pinch in the sleeve.

If it truly was the skirt, you should be able to see the crack. Got pics?

Ill put some pics up later today. I see the top dead center line but its really hard to push it to that line. It looks like something got caught between the sleeve and piston because there is a flat scratched area.

LOL I never really pushed it that hard. I just bashed with it.

The top of that piston looks like sandblasted hammered crap, the button probably looks the same. The rod looks pelted too.

Looks like the piston skirt is fine from the pics. Have a look at your bearings for a piece of missing race. Some kind of aluminum or metal is missing from somewhere for that damage to happen, not that it matters any more:lol:

Im still struggling on how to get the bearings out. Its almost like they are glued in. And yes there was a piece of metal that looked like half of a washer inside the engine and metal shavings.

I'm starting to think that the glow plug failed and damaged the engine because I just re-assembled it with the original parts and it seems fine. I'm going to drive it and see if the engine still works.

A glow plug element would not have done that kind of damage, you have jack hammer marks on your rod.

You probably had a piece of metal get into one of the ports and it made it's way to the top of the piston on a up stroke. These engines make 35,000+ RPM, lots of things can go really bad in a short amount of time.

You have a hole down the side of the sleeve and piston, it will not make any compression. If it runs a little bit, it will not make any kind of power.

Yeah the engine barley gets out of first. Now i'm debating on either using my lrp .28 or selling it to get a lrp .30. I'm not worried about the price im just not sure if the .30 is better.
