can you post some vids after you put that in? also what kinda gearing have you messed with? I just ordered some parts to do my conversion!!

SloRacer1080 09-15-2011 09:59 PM

Oh yeah, video will be posted for sure

As for gearing, so far I have tried 56t spur with 14t/17t/19t, and 54t spur with 19t pinion. The one in the video is 54/19, best one I've tried so far. By the way it felt, 21t pinion should be perfect, although with this new motor Im sure I will have to gear up even further, being that it is 1000kv lower, but then again there will be more voltage, so we'll see. The problem I ran into for gearing was that with anything lower than 54/19, it would not engage 2nd gear. Trans just wasn't spinning fast enough, even with the wheels off the ground.

Got everything installed. Had to get a bit creative with the esc mount...you'll see  Video will be taken tomorrow.

awesome vid. Truck looks like it's running good. So what gearing did you end up using? My parts should be coming in this week for my conversion.

SloRacer1080 09-18-2011 04:03 AM

With this motor I'm using 18/54. It could go up another tooth or two, but it is pretty close so far. It is deff a handful to drive tho :D:lol:

nexxus 09-18-2011 06:19 AM

Perhaps try it on 3s? I know I have an old Savage 25 I want to convert but I can't be f.. with the diffs etc (espec when I have a Flux anyway) so am thinking a milder 3s set up may work and be kinder on the drivetrain as well. (I'll be dialling the esc back as well as it's for my 2 y/old to hack with, keep him off my wraith!)

Nice work. I haven't made it any farther with mine, a buddy was interested in buying it but then he backed out, then I bought an 1/8 scale nitro buggy and been playing with it. I just went and got a couple spur gears, 54 and 58. I am using a 2200kv motor so the gears your running might not work as well for me but it gives me a good starting point. I just need to get some pinions. I had some pinions that fit the spur but wouldn't fit on my motor shaft. Could not drill it out for anything, toasted 3 perfectly good drill bits. I guess I will have to buy some. Where did you get your pinions from?

Rcmonster carries pinions with a 5mm bore.

Supposed to be 2 shock towers, one was missing from the package I got. I'm waiting for a response from them to get the missing tower sent. :(

Bashing around yesterday, things were going great. Me and a friend found a bunch of nice sized mulch piles to bash around. I also had my ramp with me, wish I had the camera. Aired the thing out big time, a couple double backflips, some nice height, etc.. Well, everything was going well till out of nowhere, just putting around.. crunch crunch crunch...

Going to have to get the RRP gear set, $100 there. I'm debating on getting an aluminum trans case while I'm at it. I could only find one, RD Logics for around $70. Think it's worth it? and does anyone else make one?

Got some new wheels, haven't used them yet. Trans blew up before I had them mounted. Proline 40 series Moabs..

Nice tmaxx

No one on this forum has tired to put a BL emaxx tranny in a tmaxx? Seems like the cant be that different.

I just won one off ebay so I will be trying it next week.

SloRacer1080 10-20-2011 09:36 PM

As far as I know, the e-maxx tranny bolts on very differently. I haven't tried myself, but like you said, I can't imagine it being too difficult. Problem would be making sure it's bolted to the chassis really well, that thing needs to be secure.

92lilredyj 11-10-2011 01:21 PM

Ok got the BL emaxx trans. Here is how I mounted it. Not that hard at all. 4mm counter sunk to hold the adaptor to the tranny, then tapped 3mm holes in the adaptor to mount it to the tmaxx. I would like to used nuts on the 3mm screws but the tranny is in the way, could grind the plastic away a little and put nuts, but I use thick enough alum.

Works great, been running it hard for about 7 battery packs with no problems.

These are some good set ups and ideas. Thumbs up. I too just converted my t maxx with a low budget 2200kv $30 hobbyking motor and a $70 hobbywing 80a esc. The truck runs great and has plenty of torque but tops out at 22mph. (used a speedometer app on phone) I'm running a 72t spur and 19t pinion. I'm going to try a 68t spur and see how that goes. Please if you have any ideas let me know. Thanks..
