How to tell when engine is worn out
I was wondering if there was any chance that you can tell that your engine is worn out without taking the engine head off. My truck now idles but after about 30 seconds it slowly drops rpm's and if you wait to long it stalls.

Most nitro engines will stall out at idle especially if you got your LSN set too rich it will basically flood itself out. There are a few telltale signs. One is if your engine is sealed and your decent at tuning once your engine is up to temp it will either never hold a tune or it will always stall out. Another way is pull your sleeve and piston out, hold your thumb over the top of the sleeve and push the piston up. If it is really worn you wont feel much of any pressure pushing on your thumb

I will sometimes have to lean it out to get it started and warmed up when it is a bit cold out but once it is hot it holds a good tune. Some times I will have to richen it a smidge if I am running it hard or it is hot outside. I believe it is still good.

It's probably fine, 30 seconds is a pretty long idle, and it should be a little bit loaded up after 30 seconds. It should also run pig rich for about 2-4 minutes after startup, then run better as it gets warm.

when installing a new piston and sleeve, can u reuse the rod and crank bearings? my revo 3.3 needs a piston and sleeve and i didnt know if i could use my rod since its still in awesome shape? and the crank bearings.. can they be reused?
|
It all can be reused. I would highly recommend changing the rod and using new wrist pin/ clips. If the bearings are still smooth then don't worry about it. Rebuilding a 3.3 could end up costing more than a new one. Gotta keep things in perspective.

yeah the piston and sleeve comes with new clips. and my rod really does look great.. not a blemish in sight..
