Nitro solid axle MT
Hi, i have recently been doing a lot of custom rc work and im planning on building a solid axle nitro powered wheely king, not exactly like the nitro king. I have a home built welded scale tube chassis, and was wondering if you could run a nitro engine without its mufler(Just the Mainfold). I did it on my on road car before and it worked. i want it to be just like a scale MT. will it work?

You may be able to get it to run a little without a pipe, but I would try to find a way to fit some sort of pipe or muffler so that you have the proper backpressure needed to pressurize your tank. ;)
|
Didn't XTM have a solid axle nitro MT? I would take a look at that and see how they did it.

ya im looking more towards a home built nitro solid axle MT. and have the manifold mounted upright like a real monster truck would. also do you know of any transmissions that have reverse for a nitro car that will work?
|
I like my Savage transmission with reverse. A lot of people seem to have trouble with it for some reason and the only thing I can figure is that people are trying to go in reverse and slam it into forward as they whip the front end around. That or they just aren't smart with it. I hold the brake before I shift into reverse and before going back into forward, I hold the brake as well. I also give the servo time to actually engage the transmission as well. I have had only one breakdown and that was the shaft coming out of the reversing box sheared. But even then it lasted 5 years before that happened. Put another shaft in for $10 and has been going good ever since.
The Savage tranny is built as a two speed system, but they also have a three speed upgrade if you want it. I use it and it works great for me, but other people seem to have issues with it. |
Kyosho makes a solid axle Nitro MT. Its called the MadForce

Personally i would not run the engine with out some sort of pipe because of the back pressure issues and needing the pressure for the tank. Don't forget about the T-Maxx transmission, its two speed and has reverse.

Will the those transmissions fit into a 1/10 truck, the roll cage is only as wide as a wheely king chassis? Also do you know any manufacture that makes 1/10 monster jam el toro or captains curse bodies?

Check out Traxxas, they just came out with some new Monster Jam bodies for the Stampede |
ok i just checked Traxxas.com so i might use a modified grinder body. Hopefully i'll have some pics of the chassis up tonight its far from done just need to clean up the welds and make the engine mounts.

what size engine are you going with? and what axles have you chosen for this project?
|
Wheely king axles,(hardend steel gears mod), wheelbase might be pretty short to do an arena style MT. And the engine is a .15 off of an exeed nitro on road car, the engine is actually pretty realiable and easy to tune.
