Tmaxx Steering

So i just put together a tmaxx that i got from a trade. I threw the stock traxxas steering servo in there, i figured it would be sufficent esp. because traxxas sells it with all their tmaxx's. I was wrong. The steering is sluggish and almost unusable. So, my question is, what is the best yet cost effective steering servo that will be satisfactory for the maxx?

thanks!

the 2075 is the same specs as the 2070. only the 2075 is waterproof. i have the 2070 on my t-maxx and i was gonna go with the 2075, but everyone reccomended different servo's.

Have you checked to make sure there isn't anything binding in the steering on the truck? The pivot ball retainers could be too tight, could be something hanging up the bellcranks, etc... Disconnect the servo from the steering linkage and move the steering by hand, if it moves freely then yeah the servo is crap, if it hangs up, fix the bind and the stock servo should work just fine to get it going.

The steering on my E-Maxx was terrible. It would really only turn the wheels while moving. I changed out the steering assembly with one from New Era Models with ball bearings and put in a Scanner RC SSV-9864MG Ultra Torque digital metal gear servo. Here is a little video clip of my truck with the new steering goodies installed.

Same here, with the 2070 it has a hard time locking left to right without forward movement.

well,

this morning i took apart the steering assembly and cleaned/lubricated everything. It is a little better but still what i consider terrible. I think i am going to go for the savox servo linked above from a-main.

I upgraded the steering in mine with a alum steering set running on ball bearings - that will get you the most from a better strg servo -

Nice.
You could just opt for a set of bearings to replace the stock bushings though. 5x8x2.5mm IIRC
That and a 5 cell RX pack makes a world of difference.

thats true also. i went from the 4-aa batteries to the traxxas 5-cell hump pack and noticed a difference. im actually selling 2 5 cell 1600mah battery packs. let me know if your interested.

gbsharon 03-21-2011 01:02 PM

i actually have a hump pack left over from my jato. i will try that. but, the servo is officially ordered along with some other misc goodies and should be here wednesday! woot!

Duster_360 03-21-2011 06:12 PM

Another really useful thing - replace the stock switch with one than has a charging lead built in so you don't have to take the radio box apart every time you have to charge the hump pack. The charge lead stays outside the box so you can just hook it to the charger when it need charging.
