Converting a T Maxx 2.5 to 3.3

I would like to know what is needed to convert my T Maxx 2.5 to a 3.3... I'm new to MT's so if my question is stupid I apologize...Thanks

After looking at your truck's pic in another thread, it looks like you have the 2.5 with the slide carb.

All you will need is the new 3.3, everything will bolt up to it and it will bolt right in. Off the 2.5 you will need the clutch bell, clutch, collet, shim washers and E-clip. Buy new clutch bearings and clean up all the rest. Off the back of the 2.5 you will need the pull start/cheezy start/roto start back plate, OWB,(one way bearing) and bolts, header and bolts and your good to go to start bolting all that into the 3.3.. But the 3.3 comes with a new pull start on it if you buy one new in the box.

I will recommend a THS full header and pipe though.

Yes to the pipe.

If you take your old 2.5 to your LHS, you can get a new 3.3 on the (engine replacment program) ERP, for like $110 bucks.

I see you have a T Maxx 2.5. I bought a set of RPM axle carriers for my Maxx not knowing they were for the 3906 model. They will ofcourse fit the T Maxx 1.5 and 2.5. But I just saw you were new to MTs and had a 2.5 Maxx and thought you might be able to use them. I bought them on here for $10. There basicly new still. I would sell them for $12 shipped. That gives me a few bucks for shipping and most of my $10 back. They would be a great upgrade for durability for a few bucks. PM me if your interested.

You might be able to find a new 3.3 with pullstart for 110 on ebay and keep the 2.5 carb as a spare, they are the same carb.

I would check to make sure that the 3.3 will bolt on the chassis also. I have a 3.3 SMaxx and a 2.5 TMaxx and the mount holes are diffrent on the chassis. I konw that some are all the same but I have one that is not so I would check that too and get a mount if you need one.

thats correct. if so, i got an aluminum mount off my 3.3 motor. i bought the traxxas blue aluminum one. so i have the stock 3.3 motor mount if you need it.

the 3.3 has the exact same footprint as the 2.5.itwas my first mod i did to my 2.5 widemaxx. Later on i did a full 3.3 conversion on my T-maxx where i ordered the new stile 3.3 chassis and put the 3.3 drive shafts and 3.3 RPM arms on it. It basically made it into the current 3.3 truck wile still using the IMO better no-optidrive. Swapping to the longer chassis plate made it alot easier to drive with the added power of the 3.3.

Just to be sure I dug out one of my 2.5s and a 3.3 and they are almost identical. they both fit on this 2.5 motor mount I have sitting here. As long as the truck wasnt a pro.15 the swap is easy.

O/P,

Refer to post #2. Everything bolts up, no worries. Trxnut said to look on flea bay for a $110 3.3, I would do that too! That way you could keep the 2.5 for parts. They share the same carb and con rod.
