mgt help

im looking for a motor to put in my mgt ,i picked it up used in good shape only thing it was missing was the motor.so i dont know if it was a .21 or 4.6 in it i just know its not a 8.0 the problem is i put a brand new force .26 in it and that was the worst choice and money not well spent let my lsh talk me into it i seen a couple videos of some mgt's with OS vg 30 but cant find anywere that have one with a pull starter on it so i looked at the axail .32rr and the lrp .30 if any mgt lovers no the best mill to use for this heavy truck please help

I have the MGT 8.0 it came with a .50 and when that blew up the guy at the hobby shop said the Axial .32 was a good engine to stick in it..I bought one off ebay and Ive never been happier. This engine has alot of torque plus it really screams with the optional turbo head button like I have..The 3 needle carb makes tuning a dream...The Axial has been in my truck for almost a year and a half and have over 8 gallons of fuel through it and its still up for a serious bash session...

My MGT has been through alot of looks and changes but the Axial remains the same...Heres a few

i think i might just go with the axail 32 but do you know the differents between the one you have and the black head 32rr it might be the same just with a different head but idk

T-Maxxxed_Owt 12-19-2010 05:48 PM

The engine I have w/o the optional Turbo head button spins 34,000,,,with turbo button it spins almost 37,000 and has an 8 port sleeve...The .32rr spins past 37,000 and has a 6 port sleeve..They didnt have that engine when I bought mine so Im thinking the Greenheaded Axial will now go in my OFNA GTP On-road car converted to on/off road and the .32rr will go into the MGT...

I just got a MGT 8.0 for my son for Christmas. I opened it to take a quick look to make sure everything is there for when he opens it on Christmas and couldn't find the instructions. Could it be underneath the truck? I ask because I took everything out except the truck because you have to cut two straps to unloosen it, and I rather my son do that on Christmas. Or you could only get it online at their website?

The manual will be under the truck..You can go online at TeamAssociated.com to read the online version now...

http://www.teamassociated.com/manuals/MGT8.0/

The 8.0 is a powerful truck and the trans has mostly metal internal trans gears which makes it a very tough truck...The .50 engines however dont last too long if you lean it out too much to get max revs and by full throttling it all the time plus theyre pretty hard to break it in the right way in order to get more than 1-2 gallons through it...I broke mine on and ran it on 20% Trinity Monster brew..Buy in gallons to save money....The cost of 2 qts is the same as buying 1 gallon so it makes sense...Buy a few extra glowplugs too..

To do the break-in on my engine which lasted 4 gallons before the piston skirt cracked wiping out the mill;- I pre-oiled my engine with CRC engine fogging oil through both the carb inlet and the glowplug hole...

With the glowplug removed still I rotated the engine 3-4 full revolutions and re-installed plug with piston at bdc...I stuck my truck on a craftsman toolbox with wheels able to roll freely and ran it at idle pig rich for 2 full tankfuls of nitro before using any throttle whatsoever..

I let it fully cool with the piston at bdc between tankfuls...On the third tankful I never went past 1/4 throttle..The fourth tankful I never went past 1/2 throttle and the fifth and sixth tankful I only went up to 3/4 throttle with a couple full throttle blips at tank #6...

For lucky number 7 I stuck in a new glowplug ,tuned it a bit leaner and gave it a bunch of full throttle blasters aswell as a few hill climbs...

I know what the manual says as far as break-in but if you listen to it youll be like the rest that only got 1-2 gallons out of it....sometimes not even

The truck has tons of torquey lowish rpm power so treat it as such. The screamers are its little brothers like the Mini MGT 3.0/ MGT 4.6.

I would get 12 Energizer 2450mah rechaergeable batteries with wall recharger to maximize the fun and take it easy on the funds...Double cycle the batteries at charge-up to maximize battery life because the charger only delivers 900mah output..Home Depot has the best deal..

Use a 2000-2500 mah battery for maximum starter life aswell as good cranking power..I double cycle my batteries when using the traxxas automatic or non-peak cheapo automatic charger.Let the battery totally cool between cycles too.........Good Luck with it.

Thank you T-Maxxx_Owt for the information. In the picture the black cadillac is the Mgt 8.0, but what truck is that next to it?

coconut 12-27-2010 12:18 AM

When you roll the Mgt 8.0 on the floor with your hand do the gears normally make a clinking sound? My son's Mgt 8.0 is doing that and it's more louder when you roll it forward than in reverse. Also how in the world do you put the screw into the flag pole? Other than that everything else is ok; just waiting for the weather to get a little warmer.

T-Maxxxed_Owt 12-27-2010 12:25 AM

The clinking noise is probably the clutchbell and if you roll the truck backwards with the truck in forward the sound will be way more pronounced than rolling it forwards...lock the trans in reverse and roll it forwards youll get the same noise results but opposite.....

I never stuck a screw in the flag...I glued it in place..

The smaller truck next to my MGT 8.0 w/ Escallade body is my Mini MGT 3.0....

I also have a few more vehicles.......

Looks like almost $10,000 displayed on a wall.

T-Maxxxed_Owt 12-27-2010 01:37 PM

Thats the basement storage rack....I also have a small repair area....

Some trucks youve already seen on the other rack but I have enough r/c's to fill all the spots and then some...........Most you see are monster and stadium trucks/truggies,buggies and gassers needing some attention after a massive bash session I had around thanksgiving which kept my boredom at bay for a bit repairing and modifying them....

I am new to this. The DBC(dead bottom center) is when the piston is at the bottom of the engine? Do you need to take the air filter off to this? Does the air filter just slide off by pulling on the neck of it, then you just slide it back on?

I've been looking all over the Mgt 8.0 manual for the location of the needles, but I believe the engine in the manual is not the same as in the truck. I know where the hsn is but where is the lsn and the idle screw?

anybody looking for a nice MGT
