Traxxas summit questions
im new to the brushless and lipo stuff. ive always done nitro. i have a brand new summit and it hasnt even been in the dirt yet! lol. so what i have now is two 7 cell 5000mah battery packs. i want to run these lipo battery packs in the link below.
http://www.rcplanet.com/Venom_LiPo_2...p/vnr15010.htm
what do i need to purchase to make these work without damaging the esc, etc...? all ive seen is something about purchasing some adaptors and such. also will these lipo packs be ok even when i do decide to go brushless? and when i do go brushless...what system should i go with that will be WATERPROOF cause i still wanna bash it through whatever i want if its possible. also will the water damage the lipos? i need all the help i can get and info on what all the ratings on the lipos mean. like example... 2s ,1p ,30c, etc... someone also told me that i could use a certain speed control by traxxas that is good to use. they said its capable of running brushed motors as well as brushless. the model is the VXL-3s heres the link for that esc by traxxas....
http://www.traxxas.com/products/acce..._vxl3s_h2o.htm
below is also a pic of my truck. today i glass bead blasted the wheels to get the chrome off then i used black lexan paint and misted it on and 3 hours of work later i had really nice wheels.
well thanks everyone for your help.

The only waterproof brushless system is Traxxas Vel series which I believe will be too small for the Stamp. Throwing any other brushless motor and ESC will result in frying them the second they hit water as no other maker makes waterproof brushless systems other then Traxxas
Lipo's are also not waterproof unless its Maxcraps overpriced stuff, or you tape the crap out of a standard lipo. It sounds like you are not familiar with Lipo which can result in some VERY expensive mistakes. Lipo also requires a Lipo capable charger and balancer. I suggest you do further reading before you decide to go slapping in Lipo's in a Stamp

thx
thanks for your help. im trying to learn about this lipo stuff slowly...lol. i did buy a lipo charger. its a venom pro. i use it to charge my nimh batteries as well. well guess i will stick to stock for now but i do wanna put lipos in. will the ones i listed in the link work well?

Venom's stuff is mostly crap. You can do better for less, pick some Turnigy/Zippys at Hobbyking. Keep in mind the Stamp's ESC IS not designed with a Lipo low voltage cutoff, so if you run your lipo's past the 3.0v safety voltage, your gonna puff and ruin the lipos. You will basically have to carefully time and or watch for your Stampede to slow down because Lipo's loose their power very suddenly and thats when you want to immediatly STOP driving and disconnect them. Running Lipo's past their safe voltage risks puff and worse case, fire and explosion

Running lipos in a Summit is easy. Stock or otherwise. To do it you have to buy the only thing I would ever consider buying from Novak. The 2S smart stop.
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXPGM8&P=FR
You plug the speed control wire into the smart stop and the smart stop wire into your receiver.
Because the EVX-2 speed control has a Linear BEC (what powers the servos/receiver) you need to find which is the active lead and which is the passive.
To do this plug 1 battery into 1 side of the speed control. To close the circuit on the other side put a jumper on the non battery side so it will power on. A jumper is a female plug that has a wire looped from the positive terminal to the negative. Just closes the circuit.
Then try to power on your system. If it powers on, your battery is currently plugged into the BEC side and that is the side your smart stop needs to go on.
If it does not turn on your BEC side is the opposite one your battery is plugged into.
The reason for the smart stop going on the BEC side is because the battery on that side will drain at a slightly faster rate than the other side. Once this battery trips the LVC (low voltage cutoff) you will know to stop without your other one going too low.
Hope that made sense.
As for your lipo specifications. In a "2S1P" lipo pack the first 2 digits designate the voltage of the entire pack. "2S" means "2 cells in SERIES" Each cell is 3.7 volts and when in series it doubles the voltage so 2S will be a 7.4 volt pack.
The next 2 digits designate how many cells are ran in PARALLEL in order to get the rated capacity (or mah) of the pack.
REMEMBER: Running lipo cells in SERIES double the VOLTAGE.............Running cells in PARALLEL doubles the capacity or runtime.
The fewer packs in parallel the better. A 2S1P, 3S1P, 4S1P are all fine. 2S2P not as good but still works.
Stay away from Venom stuff. Its inexpensive for a reason.
As mentioned nobody else makes waterproof systems other than Traxxas and a Velineon is NOT enough to power a Summit. Plus Summits brushless are not that great. I put brushless in mine when I first got it and am now back to stock. The soft suspension make it hard to drive that fast. Good luck though whatever you choose.
Nice wheels.

Now quit worrying about making it look pretty and just go and drive it with whatever battery you have.
PS: I use lots of Venom products and have never had a problem with them, in fact I find them better than a lot of other brands I've tried. They also have good customer service if there ever is a problem.

by the way...
what do i get in lipo as far as the 20c,25c,30c...etc? also what fits in the battery area? just a 2 cell or will a 3 cell work? thanks. reason im doing this is i want better power and longer run times.

i would go with the mamba monster for brushless and here is a link on how to waterproof it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUSmKAvHyEk
