Clutch question
Hi all,
I'm very new to nitro RC. I have a Revo 3.3 (#5309) and I'm having an issue with my clutch shoes, or spring rather. I've put about 15 tanks of fuel through my truck and the clutch spring has broken twice already. I guess my question is, is there a heavier duty spring I can install? Or, I've seen conversions where there are three clutch shoes with three springs. Would that be an option? Working on the truck is fun, but going through these springs like this is getting annoying. If anyone has had similar issues, maybe you could help me out with your remedy. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Scott |
yea thats the hop springs for u they dont last atleast the stock ones,
Traxxas Revo » SPTST4142C heres the ones that use losi type springs |
|
heres the complete set with the flywheel etc
Traxxas Revo » SPTST4142XB |
Thank you. So the three shoe design is definitely more durable?
Thanks for your help and quick response. |
i think so i use a 4 shoe clutch on my losi eight thats the same style and the springs seem to last long, u will notice a diffrence in the torque thats for sure depending on what tenion spring u use ,i use a 4 shoe so u proberty know how hard it would hit

i forgot to add that i run 2 carbon shoes and 2 alum so its easyer on the clutch bell, i think the alum shoes are easyer on1/10 scale not sure
|
Very nice. I'll give that a try.

and alum is tuff on the clutch bearings also but it depends on what kind of bearings u use,yea try it i think u will be happy about it

I ended up getting the MIP kit from my lhs. There weren't many other options there, and I needed something quick, so ordering online didn't end up working.
I have only put a tank through. We will have to see how it holds up. :) Thanks for your help all. Scott |
I installed a MIP clutch on the 3.3 motor I put in my Tmaxx about a yr ago, so far, its been a good clutch. I've had no issues wuith the clutch spring.

I would suggest Max Life shoes and TKO bearings on the clutch bell. It provides the highest level of performance with no worries. This is the setup many of the factory buggy racers are using so we tried it on two savages and two Revos. Be real careful with the springs when you install shoes so as to not bend the springs (there is a tool to do this). The best thing to do is borrow the tool at the track if you can find someone.

I agree, you can even look into a budget 3 shoe system. You can use a Savage flywheel, the max life savage shoes, and a savage clutch bell. I think Kyosho CB's work too, just make sure they're the same pitch
