New Engine?

Hi I'm new to rc stuff i just bought by savage 25 last month and I was looking for an engine upgrade, I was gonna buy an Axial .32 but i wasn't sure if it works with the savage 25 and if it's worth buying it after all. So what do u guys think?

savage.25 07-24-2009 09:27 AM

sounds like i found the right thread as i have a savage 25 myself and wanted to upgrade... i ripped mine around for 2 yrs with the stock engine.. so then i wanted to upgrade and bought an STS .28 from hong kong.. a friend of mine has a savage x with an STS .30 and it hauls..

i dont have experience with the axial .32 but i've heard its a good engine.. now one thing you have to be aware of is once your new engine is in the truck you have to be easy on the throttle... like if you do a donut and the truck rolls back, let it stop first then get on the gas, if you dont it will rip your dogbones, tranny, etc apart.. thats what breaks parts.. the savage 25's drivetrain isnt strong enough to handle major abuse.. but if you take it easy it will be fine.. if you have any questions then i'd be more than happy to help you out!! oh and by the way i hope i didnt stray you away from upgrading your engine.. its definitely lots of fun!!!!

Thanks for the info mate, Any axial.32 owners?

nitrorustler135 07-24-2009 11:01 PM

man this is weird i also have a savage ss with a 25 and need an ugrade...and i have had a lot of problems with my diff outdrive dogbones so first thing im going to do is ge the hotbodies savage driveshafts that are a lot more durable....and i also might build a tranny for a savage x sence they are more durable...but im planning on going with a lrp .30 comp x,spec 2,lrp .28 spec 3,4.6ho,k5.9...in my oponion it would be the smartest to get the 4.6ho or 5.9 also the cheapest of those options and the 5.9 is a .36 so it diffentally should have the power...keep us updated with ur engine decision...p.s i wouldent get the axial i have heard there have been problems with the pullstart popping off also that its a pain to tune sence its a 3 needle carb

savage.25 07-25-2009 01:01 AM

nitrorustler135- sorry dude but you either have the savage ss or the savage 25.. they are WAY different..

souless- ya no prob, nitrorustler reminded me that the STS .30 is has a 3 needle carb on it which apparently is a pain in the ass to tune... not sure what your price range is but my STS .28 was only $135.00 shipped to BC canada from hong kong... and the shipping was surprislying fast..

After .30 they all are slow. A picco .28 or lrp .28 will eat any .32+ mill on the market in a savage chassis. yes the .32 will fit but it is slow as all get out. .28's FTW. For 99 bucks the F 4.6 (force .28) will slap a axail .32... Think it over bigger is not better with glow mills. as far as the K5.9 goes its pure junk!

nitrorustler135 07-25-2009 12:09 PM

yes i have a savage ss and i have had the regular 25...and where did you hear that the 5.9 was garbage because ive only heard good things about that engine.also it isant $100 to get the 4.6 its $150 doing the engine exchange the best engine u can get doing it for $100 is the 4.1 which i believe is just an updated version of the s-25

Souless 07-26-2009 11:12 AM

So now that u guys said the axial .32 is not so good , any good engines? PS: I'm buying the engine from ebay since they are much cheaper then engines here in Malta so my price range is 200$ Considering a 40$ shipping fee.
What about the axial .28?

silverM3 07-26-2009 11:43 AM

get the os .28 xz. It is one of the most powerful engine. Easy to tune and reliable. It is a bit over your budget, but I think it is worth the extra.

Do you now any other good engne except that 1? its kinda over budget as u said

silverM3 07-26-2009 12:25 PM

i know how you feel. $$$$

The problem with the lower price engine like STS, GO Tech, SH...

They deliver good performance, but they don't last long. Also, sometimes, their carb is not made very well, so they have issue holding their tune. Sorry to say something like this. But, you get what you pay for.

Don't agree that Axial32 is no good - its a torque motor, not an RPM mill, you just have to gear it diff. I've run one in my 4.6SS and gearing it up to use the torque band, it was fine. I changed to a 27Picco and closer to stock gearing cause I wanted the 32Axial in my SM since it weighs a bunch more.

So I kept searching on ebay and found K5.9 savage4.6 engine is it any good?

nitrorustler135 07-26-2009 07:36 PM

if you are planning on keeping the stock 2speed tranny then i would do with the 4.6 but you might have some problems with ur tranny because it isant made to handle that kind of power...i would suggest getting the 3 speed tranny swap (just the 3 speed conversion kit can be found around $50)...does anybody know if the 4.6ho is any good in the savage?

huh??? the dogbones will blow out before the tranny does.. i have an savage 25 with a STS .28 with the savage x easy access 2 speed tranny and it handles it fine.. no problems.. a friend has the savage x 4.1 with an STS .30 with the same tranny as i do and he has no problems and he's hard on his truck.
