Truckzilla .46 Engine Conversion For Savage

Any one here got anything to say about this conversion?

Good? Bad? Or Ugly?

C'mon guys, lets hear it. I've just finished reading about it at Savage Central and so far the views are quite mixed. Some of you here must have some light to shed on the subject.

Bring it on.....................

anything over a .26 is an overkill IMO

its not even that much faster, of coruse you can gear it up a little more but...yea you get the picture

the .46 conversion is more of a coolfactor than a perfomance mod.(thats asssuming that you have a .26 picco or similar in your savage) from the stock .21bb to the .46 truckzilla conversion will be a BIG leap, in taht case it IS considered a performance mod.

So how much quicker would a Picco/Wasp .26 be over the Savage .25?

I'd have expected massive torque from the .46 engine though - which should make the Savage feel much quicker/punchier, even if the top end was not as good. I'm only speculating coz I've never actually driven a Savage of ANY kind.

I'm very close now to getting a Savage SS, as soon as they become available again - most places seem to be out of stock. The best U.K. price seems to be £350, whereas the best U.S. price (converted from dollars into pounds sterling) is £209!! It would be interesting to find out roughly how much import duty and shipping/insurance would cost me if I did decide to order from the U.S.

the .26 picco will be a little* better than the .25 but NOT a day and night difference

the .46 will be a lot more torquer true, but that doesn't mean it will be faster, it will eat up a lot more drivetrain parts, and you will ahve to adjstu the gearing, shifting point, etc imo its not worth the $ and time

:) thanks

How about quality/reliability side of things. I heard stuff like 'yeh, I'm very impressed so far' to 'my engine is already beginning to crap out'.

You guys must know someone who's got one or maybe you own one yourself - does this engine sound like a bag of nails being tossed about, or does it purr like a nitro guzzling pussy cat?

Nice Job - dig the paint.

How does your .46 mill run? Have you had any problems? When did you get it?

Truckzilla Conversion

Horatio - Thank you. The conversion kit went togather very fast without a hitch. The motor is very tight I loosen the plug about 1/2 of a turn to relieve some of the compression and the motor fired right up on the second tug of the pullstart. Only got to run it once I have not finished breaking it in due to the snow. I don't like the cold.:D

Horatio 02-04-2004 07:05 AM

You're welcome - give credit where it is due and all that stuff!

I have had engines that are so tight when new that even with the plug completely removed, the flywheel needed to be 'tapped' off TDC with a small hammer and a small screwdriver

They soon free up though don't they?!:sneaky:

I am still waiting on my Savage SS arriving - availability in the UK is very scarce for some reason. As for the .46 Truckzilla conversion, I am so tempted - but I've heard alot of angry owners complaining of quality problems, faults and no parts back up.

I'm hoping that with the most recent versions, HB will have addressed these issues and we can all feel happier about going right out and buying the Truckzilla kits. Have a look at the Truckzilla thread over at Savage Central - but be sure to post stuff on this thread, you hear!;)

Truckzilla Conversion

Horatio - To be honest with you the reason I purchased the conversion kit was because I was having alot of problems with the nitrostar 25 that came in the savage. The motor ran fine for a while then all of a sudden it went to crap!! When I took the motor apart it was full of fine metal shavings, it looked like they forgot to clean the motor out at the factory. I also went thru two roto starts and at least 4 one-way bearings. After that experience I take all new motors apart , inspect them, and clean them out real good. I hope they get the parts in soon for the truckzilla because I am thinking about buying a second motor and getting it modified by EBMODS. Have a good day !!

Horatio 02-04-2004 11:17 AM

Yep, you're right about metal shavings in engines. Apparently this is a common problem with many engines - including some top of the line racing engines too.

It's a real good idea to at least take the back plate/cylinder head off and flush them through.

I heard of a case over on Savage Central where a nut was found underneath the carb in the intake!!:weird:

But metal shavings screw up the engine just as good - it just takes a little longer:cry: I hope you checked your .46 thoroughly.......

Good luck and keep us posted;)

Truckzilla -46

Yipee!! Most of the snow has finally melted in Indy! I fired up truckzilla yesterday - it is a beast! It is still running rich because it is not completley broken in yet . The 46 on a rich setting is matching the performance of my picco 26 unbelievable!! I can't wait until I get this baby completly broken in. I have the 18 tooth clutchbell on it and it almost pops a wheelie, when the motor breaks in it will be poping wheelies on demand.:D
