Custom Shocks with Pics
Hi there guys here are the new LST XXL shocks that i have had the shafts & bodys cut to custom sizes to what i want to run on a race savage when the track surface is rough and the jumps are large, I currently run 4 jammin big bore 16mm rear shocks with 37.5 oils all round but these will give me another option.
On the far left : jammin rear 16mm big bore shocks ( i run these on all 4 corners on my race savage ) Next three shocks : new custom size front shocks ( 14mm of the shafts and shock bodys ) front of the racer Next three shocks : new custom size rear shocks ( 9mm of the shafts and shock bodys ) rear of the racer 2nd on the right : stock savage shock for reference When cutting the bodys down to size i had to rebate a new groove on a shock body for the o ring seal also http://i408.photobucket.com/albums/p...m/P1020938.jpg |
How'd you shorten the shafts?

reply
I machined the thread along the shaft and cut away the section i wanted and beveled the bottom edge to get the length i wanted for front and back.
I also machined the shock bodys with the new o ring groove and cut away the extra length of body and beveled the top edges of the bodys and thats the finished results, large lst xxl shocks cut to sizes i wanted. |
Real nice job Savagesam.
I have some MSR8 shocks I want to shorten. But I was just going to cut the spring down a ring at a time until I have my desirable length. Take a heat gun to the spring and flatten the bottom of the spring so it fits flat. Would this work or do I actually have to do something with the shock shafts too? |
Nice job, but you should of just got an LST2 and problem solved;):lol:

Looks EXACTLY like losi muggy shocks to me.......:sneaky:
We have been doing that for years to our lst trucks. The muggy shocks are just a tad bit shorter shock shafts and shock bodies than the standard length lst shocks. |

correct the losi muggy shocks are 9mm shorter shafts and shock bodies.
i went with front 15mm shorter shaft & body and rear 10mm shorter shaft and body so the rear shocks are close to the muggy shocks.. i had a friend lend me his muggy shocks to test before making these to the sizes i want and they are shown with out any preload at all in those pics |
