help please

Greetings all,
I am new to this forum and this is my first post. My problem is this, I am an experienced R/C modeler in the realm of helicopters and airplanes. I also have owned a number of R/C cars including an HPI RS4 that I got about 10 years ago. I recently made the return into the R/C car world with a Losi Aftershock.
My initial excitement wore off almost immediately when I found the car uncontrollable due to MASSIVE interference with the stock radio gear. I did the basic checks including checking the antenna for voids, replacing the crystal, and even moving to an area with no power lines to cause further interference. I have found the problem to occur only when the engine is running. I was wondering if anybody had any advice on how to fix this problem. I have looked at the Spektrum radio system and might go that route, but I'd rather not spend another $120 after spending almost $400 on the truck.
If anybody has any input on this matter, I'd appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike

You wouldn't spend $100 for an airplane tx would you? It's the same with cars. You get what you pay for. You could always pick up a 2nd hand radio on here for short money instead of buying a new, but lesser quality radio.

Or,

make sure the antenna is not damaged, is pulled out of the antenna tube, there is no dirt in the rx, the tx antenna is pulled out all of way( pretty basic, but sometimes we miss the little things) .

If it's an AM radio, you might want to upgrade to an FM tx.

Thanks for your help. I looked at other reviews of the aftershock and many other people have had the exact same problem with the radio. I am probably going to replace the radio but still looking for a cheep fix if it exists.
Thanks,
Mike

You can buy a Spektrum DX2.0 for about $130 new, and about the same for the 3-channel version used. Both are very good radios (2.4 gHz)

Do plenty of research on whatever brand you plan to buy, some have had issues in the past.

Why do people buy aftershock -that they have to upgrade- when lst2 are under 400$ now because of the xxl?

I have an Airtronics mx3s that I have used for bashing and racing for several years. I love it and have never had a problem with it. There only $130 bucks and it's fm with synthesized modulation so there's no crystals to worry about. Also I remember on an old rs4 that I had it glitched like crazy after I replaced all the parts with carbon fiber and aluminum. Upgraded to the radio I have now and no more problems.

Funny thing about my rs4 is it never han any interference problems even with the bottom-of-the-line Futaba 2 channel AM radio. I am on my way to the hobby shop tomorrow to pick up a spketrum radio. Hopefully 2.4 ghz will do as good on the surface as it does in the air.
