could some one help explain

The difference between the 3.3 Revo's and how they get them. I see that the platinum is a longer and wider then the 5308 is it the chassis that gives the length or are the bulkheads longer as well. is the width from longer A arms or is it just from set up and which are the RPM ones.
The reason I am asking all the questions is I just picked up a 5309 really cheap and would like to turn it into something similar to a platinum. Some things are obvious the tirods & steering arms. but when it comes to what geometry has changed and where and what bearings and carriers aka steering knuckles. Also are the shocks that different fro the 5309 to the 08 or is it just the Teflon coating and the Ti-Ni Coated shafts or are the internals different as well.
Sorry if this has already been explained in the past but I have not been able to find a good answer anywhere. Please only give helpful factual answers if you do not want to be helpful please do not reply.
Thanks Corey

The wheel base extension is caused by the RPM extended arms. The hubs on the platunim are also RPM hubs (bigger bearing, and stronger). The shocks are GTR shocks with variable rate pistons.

I am not seeing that on RPM's web site. In fact locking through what they offer for the Revo suggests the opposite here is a quote from there site "Tech Note: Due to increased material to support the pillow balls from pulling through the carrier, RPM Axle Carriers will not work in conjunction with Slayer / Revo 120-LT Long Travel rockers (Traxxas #5356)."
I am also not seeing any longer or extended arms I have a set of the RPM's and they are the same as the 5309's so I do not think that it is gaining any width there. If I am wrong please take the time to show me where because I can not find it. I do not have enough post to link RPM's revo's product page but you can google it. If you could point me in the correct direction to fix my problems that would be great.
Thanks

The revo platinum uses extended rear arms. Meaning it moves the rear tires back. These are made by Traxxas and not RPM.

The revo platinum chassis is the same length as the regular 5308 revo. The wheelbase is 19mm longer out the box due to the above arms that i posted.
It is 1 inch wider due to the 1/2" offset wheels that it uses.

The Platinum does not come with RPM arms. The chassis is the same as the 3.3 just a different color and the extended wheelbase is a result of optional rear arms.

yeah your right. Aren't the hubs RPM though?

No the axle carriers are standard traxxas carriers designed to take a bigger outer bearing and also have the steel retaining ring for the pivot ball. Pretty much the same carrier on the 5308 Revo.

Yep, No problem.

Thanks for all the replies and input. Are there any other things that are good upgrades from the 5309 to get it a more track friendly. I have found a Tekno RC Sway Bar Kit that looks ok but I would like to know more about it before I spend the money on it.

i run it on my slayer and live it. IT really adds stability to the truck.

Thanks SnowBoard I used to race stadium truck and 1/8 scale buggy but that was like five or six years ago. I just miss the stability that I remember.
I did put a set of progressive 2 suspension arms on and that did not give as much help as I had hoped. On with the build and thanks for all the input.

IMHO keep the 5309 just for a backyard basher.

Get yourself a Revo Platinum for the track.
By the time you spend all the money in the 5309 you can just buy a platinum. There were a couple here on the forums for sale.
