blowing front diff
 

i have an axial .28 with a 3 speed tranny in my savage.For some reason i think i keep blowing my front diff out what can i do to try and fix that.i tried alum case. when i hold all wheels of the ground and give it gas the front wheels don't balloon up.Plus could the front diff be causeing me to not be able to shift gears

Is there oil in your diff?...

if there isnt put some in it, its sort of uhhh, needed.

Or if you put way to much oil in it or way to heavy oil in it could blow your diff

ya check the oil in your diff. i dont think the weight of the oil is gonna blow it up... i run 120,000 wt oil in both my diffs and i've never had a problem.. hell some of the guys in my local hobby shop they run 500,000 weight oil and they run HARD and bash a lot and never a problem..

also what kind of diff are you running? i got the 4 spider gear, tear your diff completely apart (like gut it and everything) then put your driveshaft cup and gear in then cover it in oil, put another 2 gears in, will be across from each other, cover in oil, put the other 2 gears in (across from the other 2 gears, so it should look like an X) then cover with oil, then put the last gear in and fill the rest of the case with oil and your done.. now this is IF you have a 4 spider gear diff like mine.

If you are blowing diffs, it usually means something is loose. It could be the ring/pinion mesh. Here's a good link to shimming diffs. This is for a LST2 diff, but it's the same principle for all diffs: http://hdrcvideos.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=15380

Another thing that can cause diff problems is driveline slop. If the CV's and dogbones are all loosey-goosey, then when the slack gets taken up there is a slamming effect, and this shock is transferred through the whole drivetrain.

Your front diff takes a helluva beating, because when you land from a big jump or slam on the brakes, all the weight shifts to the front and then the front diff is subjected to lots of abusive forces. So it pays to make sure the driveline slop is at a minimum, plus make sure the diff gears are shimmed.... :nod:
