Default New track in VA

I am looking to build a ROAR sanctioned track in the spring of next year (I work for the Amherst County Rec Dept. in Amherst, VA), and was wondering what the interest was in this part of the state. (Amherst is located between Lynchburg and Charlottesville)

It will be a well maintained off-road dirt track. Just trying to get a feel for hobbyists out there in this area.

SO.......if you live in Central Virginia, please respond to this post.

Do you run on-road /off-road....electric/gas?

I went in front of the rec board tonight to get their approval for a track and they approved electric only.......1 out of 5 raised the noise issue. I feel that I will get both up there though. I still have to go to the Board of Supervisors for the final say (formality)

ANYWAY....electric is definately a go...now to design a track

To be honest with you electric offroad is kind of dying out around here. If you could go with gas you probably will have better luck. If you could get about 15-20 electric guys out there every week then I think that would be enough to keep a track going. The guys that I race with at DRCW travel quite often to run gas(1/8 buggy). We will normally travel up to 3-7 hours just for a one or two day race. I think gas is the way to go. I think more people who are willing to travel run gas. I like both electric and gas so I not trying to be biased. Ask Homer up at the Tiltyard if you have any questions. he's a good guy and has the best track I have ever ran on. check out his web site. later rob

Where is DRCW?? Yes the Tiltyard is a great place....I went up there to the Nationals in August.

I would love to do gas but........public relations. (still working on that)

Maybe if a track is dedicated to electric it would draw more interest from electric users. Never hurts to try...cost will be extremely minimal. All construction will be done in-house.

Thanks for the info!!!

I do not have AIM....but if he would like to contact me my email is [email protected] or [email protected]

Thanks.....I have proposed another site for the track so as to not "annoy" people w/ the gas vehicles. I have also been in contact with an r/c plane club in Charlottesville to see what is needed....how to build an airstrip for planes also.

Things are looking good for this project!!

Hey......everything has been put on a minor hold. The board met this month and tabled the discussion until March. The track being built is no problem. I just have to wait until I see what can be run on it. (electric is a go....gas is still in the air). Added to which.....my wife is due with our first child TOMORROW!!!! If she does not deliver by Sunday....she will be induced on Monday.

Not to fear though....when you come back to school in the summer, there will be a track. I am in the process now of getting the track ROAR certified. (just paperwork)

Thanks for the continued interest. I will keep you updated when something happens.

GREAT NEWS!!!!! The track construction will begin in April!! I was approved for electric AND Gas!! I have recieved alot of emails from interested people. Please spread the word that a track is coming to the Amherst/Lynchburg area!!

Also, there was an article in the Lynchburg paper today about the track.

If you have any questions please email me @ [email protected]

I am compiling a list of interested people and updating them on the track and what to expect in the upcoming months.

Thanks!!
