STARTER PROBLEM

Hi,
i went to start my truck this weekend and when i put the electric starter into the socket it spun freely. i tried a few more times and sometimes the motor would spin and most times spun free. i pulled the exhaust and tried again and now the motor spins until i cover the exhaust port. it seems that once there is some resistance something in the starter starts slipping. i took the starter shaft and motor side cover out of the motor to see and i don't see any problems.
this is also the first time i saw how these starters work. by hand, i can't get it to slip, but reassembled, it slips.
this is a knock off of the LST i was told.
any ideas ? tips, tricks, hammer ?
thanks
Dave

Most likely the one way brg (OWB) just needs a good cleaning as well as the shaft it runs on. Use motor spray or something like that and after cleaning, grease the shaft with a very thin coating of grease. They make a special OWB grease, but not sure its called for.

Make sure to note the direction the OWB comes off - it spins in one direction and grabs in the other. If you install it backwards it will just spin. Nitro residue can work its way out into the OWB and this is usually what cause this prob. Some motors are worse than others about it - you can just motor spray it down to clean it and that usually gets it back to working. You'll prob need to start maintaining it now too.

i am new to this and want to know if it's normal to have problems every time i go to start this thing. i don't think i have ever not had a problem when i go to use this.
is it because it's a knock off ? or is this just the nature of the beast ?
thanks again
Dave

A quick fix is to loosen the starter enough to get the WD-40 straw in there and spray it in, spin the motor, spray it in, spin the motor and it will start grabbing again.

No its not because its knock off, it happens to every nitro

The bearing just wears out, so i would just clean it and it should work like new.
