Are you going to be racing or bashing? or both?

SOHCrawler 01-27-2009 12:19 AM

The best RTR is the Axial right now. If you can hold off for a few months, Losi is coming out with a Race Roller. You will need electrics, but the over all rolling chassis is sweet and its set up from the factory for competition.

I agree, the Axial is very versatile and has a ton of aftermarket parts available. That's if you want to bash electric. If you want to bash nitro, look at the Team Losi RTR trucks. They are extremely durable, popular, and parts are available everywhere. If you want to race, do you want to? Nitro or electric? If electric, then I'd say go with the Associated RTR stadium truck. If nitro, the most popular classes are 1/8 scale truggies(a buggy based racing truck). There's a lot of options here. I'd find out what's available at your local hobby shop, it's great to have parts available locally. Team Losi, again, makes an awsome roller(assembled with no electrics or engine) and just about every hobby shop carries them or can get them. OFNA is another brand to look for, they may make good a RTR tuggy. XTM makes an awesome truggy that normally sells for 400, which is a great price for what you get, but right now it's marked down to 300 which is a steal. Well, that's the best ones I can think of based on availability, quality, and not leaving you broke. Good luck with whatever you decide and have fun.

im sorry did i miss where he said rock crawling?:weird::confused:

BrettL 01-27-2009 01:21 PM

The Axial RTR has a front differintial with optional locker included and a slipper clutch in the center that can be used as a slipper or tightened for crawling. It also comes with 2 pinion gears for the motor. One for crawling(very slow) but one for bashing that allows it to go well over 20 miles per hour. Check out the Axial website, I think you'll be very impressed by the versatility of this truck. It's great for jumping and bashing with one pinion gear, or you can put in the other one to slow it down along with the included locker for the front and use it for a crawler. There's a utube video of it, several in fact, but one in particular that really shows its versatility and durability. In case you havn't guessed, I really like this truch and am debating whether to buy it or a Traxxass Slash to race. That's another one to consider. The Slash is only 200 RTR, has waterproof electronics, is possibly the most durable rc truck on the market, and there are special race classes for this truck at just about any track. There is an endless supply of hop-ups for it as well. The Slash race classes, however, are mostly spec classes meaning you have to run it stock. This evens the racing field so that the guy with the most money has no advantage. It's great for bashing or racing. Again, good luck with your search and check out the Axial website for the RTR, I think you'll be impressed. Just have fun with whatever you buy.:)

The Traxxas Revo 3.3 is the best Nitro Monster Truck out there in my opinion.

BrettL 01-27-2009 01:31 PM

The HPI Savage is one to consider to. HPI, Traxxas, and Team Losi all have great customer tech support and are all popular. I can only speak firsthand of the Team Losi trucks. I have a LST2 that seems indestructable. But the lower dollar Losis' are just as tough.

i started off with a traxxas electric stampede. i think it was a great way to

start. the truck has an endless list of aftermarket parts. it is mainly a basher.

all u need are batteries and tools and then u are all set

This is a good way to start. Get a stampede or E-maxx.

almost a month later....just to say that......

and dont flip out cause i said that. it was either me or pinky.

well i have an emaxx and i love it. its a great truck. but the erevo is also a great truck. almost unbreakable ive heard so you wont be spending a fortune upgrading parts. i think traxxas is still giving away the free batteries with it.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=SM&I=LXUYD6**

or you could start out with somthing smaller like a stampede or rustler or a slash.

another option would be to wait a little while because traxxas is releasing a 1/16 mini ERevo VXL which is a brushless erevo and the mini Slayer EX (not brushless). they will also come withe batteries and a charger so a you would need to do is plug in the charger charge the batteries and drive it.
here is a video..........
