Questions?? Blew the Revo 3.3 tranny - help fix? - second gear lock

I converted a Revo 3.3. I initially ran the stock baby Velineon 3500kv motor and a Mamba Max on a 3s. The truck ran amazingly good.

I just installed a Mamba Monster V3 and the Neu 2200kv motor with a 6s. The truck appeared to have an insane amount of power. However, the first time it shifted into second gear (full throttle of course), it blew the transmission. I'll post pictures later.

I took the tranny apart and it appears I sheared all of the bottom have of the small piece in this photo:

Can anybody tell me how to lock the tranny into second gear? I have no need for first gear, as the truck just flips over anyway.

Thanks!

Yes, I know exactly how to lock the tranny in 2nd gear. I machined a plate that replaces the 2nd gear clutch assembly. 1st gear and it's clutch assembly are removed from the tranny.

I have a few left, so if you are interested shoot me a PM.

I'd second what oomp stated. I bought one of his single speed plates and installed it on my brushless revo.

Excellent,

I'll try and get one of his plates. I noticed your gears are all metal.... How much did that cost you and could you help me with the part numbers?

Questions??

The description of the gears say "forward only." I suspect this is because of the nitro variable?. Because I'm brushless, shouldn't reverse work? I do however use the mechanical break, which eliminates reverse. But I don't want to spend $100 and never be able to get reverse.

Thanks,

-Brian

You can buy the gears separately and use oomp's single speed conversion plate. Be forewarned though that you will be dremeling the RRP gear in order for the plate be mounted correctly. Oomp's plate gets rid of the one way bearing inside. I'm using mech brakes on my conversion too.

Here's a pic:

Tranny Gears
All RRP Tranny Gears are precision machined from steel or aluminum and hardened for the highest performance and reliability.
Note:
Forward-only kit Part #8586 steel, will require 8529 also.

Part # Description Price
8521 T-Maxx / 2.5 Maxx Forward (Steel) and Reverse Aluminum Primary Gear Kit $37.00
8522 T-Maxx / 2.5 Maxx Reverse Primary Gear only - Aluminum $19.50
8525 T-Maxx / 2.5 Maxx Hardened Steel Topshaft 17/22t $41.50
8526 T-Maxx / 2.5 replacement bearing (1) for the RRP 8525 Topshaft $2.00
8529 T-Maxx / 2.5 Maxx Hardened Steel Forward Primary Gear $21.50
8538 T-Maxx / 2.5 Maxx Hardened Steel 2nd Gear $37.95
8586 T-Maxx / 2.5 Maxx Forward Only Hardened Steel gear kit $28.50

I'll third (fourth) the Robinson Racing Gears. They are forward only, so you'd have to give that up, and you can hear them rattling around a bit so they are a little noisy, but I don't think you will have to worry about breaking them, ever.

I've been having a harder time keeping my 23mm hexes from letting the pin out and eating the hex than I have keeping the gears in shape.

Have you guys with the Robinson gears installed noticed that you have to adjust the transmission a bunch to get it to shift into second gear sooner rather than later? It seems like I get it to shift and then I have to go back and do it again. I'm running a 4S Lipo, Mamba Monster Max and a Feigao 8XL.

Oh - you can get the whole Robinson Kit from Tekno RC - or you could. It was $100.

Mine is single speed, locked in 2nd gear. The Neu 1515 1Y on 5S have enough power to move my truck with just 2nd gear .
