On electric any one of the choices brought up would be good.
DuraTrax Evader EP ST w/ESC RTR $169
Traxxas Stampede RTR w/Radio $159
Traxxas Rustler XL-5 RTR $172
Traxxas Rustler RTR w/Radio $149
Traxxas Stampede XL-5 RTR $180
HPI 1/12 Wheely King RTR $189 (it does come with a battery)
None of the trucks listed above come with a battery or charger so the true cost of running one does go up, with all the improvements in the nitro motors over the last few years the cost of running nitro has gone down. I guess the same can be said for electric with the new brushless systems on the market and longer life batteries, but the brushless systems are not cheap to start with, (I know that you can save money in the long run but $250 + for one is still a lot of money for someone just starting out) Li Po's are cool also but they are a lot of money to, but their are real advantages in using them, especially for bashing, longer run times, longer battery life, you can charge them more than 2 or 3 times a day, but you must more caution in how you use them and never run them until their dead. I think that any one of the trucks listed above would work as intended, none of them are race trucks but from the sounds of it you want to bash..

honestly i would either go with the e savage or an emaxx. they bith are extremely durable and youll be able to find parts anywhere for them. cause dont most of the parts on a savage work on the E so thats my $0.02 on this convo.

IMO the E-Savage is the way to go. for a basher it is untouchable in the electric arena.
