thunder tiger ek4 what fuel
hi i recently got an ek4 from ebay.the engine was in very good condition commpression was over 130psi when cold.i was running it on odonnel 16% it ran great loads of power hard to stop it doing wheelies. anyway the engine lasted about 4 tanks then the piston ring snaped and that was the end of that engine. i have now put in a new piston, piston ring, liner and conrod. i know these are the helicopter based .70 pro engine. helicopter fuel is normally 6% nitro, is this what i should be useing.
any help would be much apprieciated
thanks chris

Has nothing to do with the topic, but how would you go about checking the psi on an engine?

hi the psi was checked useing a compression gauge have look here http://www.i4cproducts.com/r_c_engines.htm it explains all. its very useful when checking your engine as if compression drops you know there's a problem.
as for the response from donbeatya i know what most nitro engines run on. my question was for this specific engine as it is a helicopter based engine which tend to need a LOT more oil from what i can find out.

My dad n I have had our ek4's for almost 2 years and wouldn't recommend usin fuel with less the 15% oil in it (i personally use Cool Power 30% nitro (18% oil) and he runs his on 25% nitro (20% oil))
did ur trunk come with the small alloy head or the big Red head ???

The EK4 engine must be run on Heli fuel, 30% cool power as mentioned above is the best luck that I had with my old EK4's. RUnning car fuel through it results in exactly what happened to you. The forum seems to be dead now, but www.midmad.com has tonnes of older info on this engine.
