Lightbulb Nitro Stampede- Traxxas

Hey Guys,

I have heard this would be a good starter vehicle for someone just getting into the hobby...

Would you agree? I know it is not too powerful, but that's probably what I want for my first vehicle, then go up from there (to a Revo 3.3, etc.)

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks,

TanMan

OK, what do you plan on doing with this truck? Just bash and run around the yard, or do you think you want to race with it at some time? It will be a good "basher"(I have a ele one) but would NOT be a good racer. Even though you could run novice class and have a ton of FUN!
Have you owned a hobby grade RC before? If not this is still a good choice, but dont overlook the electric version(the new one), it is pretty quick and you basicly play and put away.
The Stampede has a bunch of hop-ups you can slap on when you want to spend $$$, both for gas and ele

nitro stampedes are great trucks. ive had mine for 4 years now and only had to fix 2 things. both were a-arms. the nitro stampede isnt "too powerful" but is really quick. it will pull wheelies anywere the tires stick. if you are just going to be bashing and want the nitro one, i would recomend a wheelie bar, helps alot. my old body had the back ripped off from doing wheelies and going so far back that the boy dragged the ground. personally, i would recomend an electric stamp for a beginner. the new one with the XL-5 and the titan 12turn is nearly as fast as the nitro. plus its alot easier to maintain. you cant just go out and run then put away a nitro truck. lots of work to keep it running clean, strong, and to have a long life. plus fuel gets expensive. i would recomend a new electric stampede first. if you like it and want a little bit more power and dont mind the cost/maintenance, then switch to a nitro

This + a GOOD charger and a couple battery packs

Just make sure you get a peak charger

Radio Shack has some very good GP 3300 packs for CHEAP compared to Tower.
You can get a good 10+ mins on a battery pack.
Remember that when you get a good charger it will/may be the last charger you will need, since you can use it for nitro RX packs, and the packs for a ez start.

You will still need fuel, a battery for the ez start and a charger for it.A glow starter, fuel bottle, and I would get a temp guage to make sure you are not overheating the motor.

if you want long runtime and easy maintenace, hook up with an electric stampede with a 3000+ sized battery. im not sure if the XL-5 can take lipo, but if it can, then that plus an ice charger would be good. 15-20 minute runtime and extremely easy maintenance. just plug and play.

Awesome replies guys! Thanks SO much for the help!

I do want Nitro, just the smell and everything, the cleaning, etc. That's what I want

Also, yes, it will be my first hobby grade vehicle, used just for bashing (that is it, not even novice races).

I was thinking about buying RPM A-arms right away, and put them on when the stock ones break, or just put them on right away because I believe they have a lifetime guarantee on them

This is what I am planning to get for the Nitro Stampede right off the bat:

Hobbico After Run Engine Oil 2 oz
DuraTrax Micro Fail Safe Unit
DuraTrax LR3 T-Maxx Glow Plug Hot (5 of them)
DuraTrax FlashPoint Infrared Temperature Gauge
Tower Hobbies Medium CA Glue 2.5 Grams
Traxxas Oil Air Filter T-Maxx 2.5
RPM A-Arms Front Blue Nitro Rustler/Stampede
RPM A-Arms Rear Blue Nitro Rustler/Stampede
DuraTrax Kwik-Pit 500cc Fuel Bottle
Tower Hobbies 6-Cell 7.2V 1500mAh Stick Standard NiCd

(And I have a charger)

How's that look?

Thanks SO much for all your help so far, I really appreciate it!!

sounds fine to me. it takes time though. dont mess up the break in. follow the instructions exactly how they are. if you mess them up then your engine will be gone real fast. and replacing them isnt cheap. also make sure you take some time to tune it real good. blue smoke coming out the exhaust is a good thing. it needs to be blue. just go to their site or read the manual to make sure you do everythign right. if you need any help just ask. ive got a stamp and rustler that are nitro and ive had to rebuild the engines. i can probly tell you what you need to do if something messes up.

That's awesome! Thanks for the offer to help, I am sure I will have some questions when I get it...

Also, when I get it, it will be too cold to run, so I am going to take it apart and build it again. That way, I will become familiar with the truck! You beat about the break in, I will follow it exactly as per the instructions

Thanks again,

TanMan

You CAN break it in at this time. Its all about tempature. I broke in my Rusty at this time of year. I guess if its below 30 or so it will be hard. Wrap the head in foil to keep the heat in. Search around, you will find a ton of info.

Well, I mean COLD

It could be like -20 C...which I think is like -4 F by the time I get the Stampede

Thanks,

yeah you dont want it below freezing. very bad for it. you dont want your fuel cold. and taking it apart is ok, but keep the engine intact. dont fiddle with it. if something is broken during break in and you messed with it, then they might not replace it. i think they would, but if its your fault, then they wont. the only reason i beat on the break-in part is because ive seen a lot of people fry their engines after the first few runs cause they didnt break them in.its a big waste on their part. and breakign in only takes a day. try to be careful when you take it apart. make sure everything goes back were it was.

Yep, I'll be careful

Now, for a new body...which will fit well? Any 1/10 scale one?

Also, I would love any GREAT links to posts, or websites that teach a lot about the NITRO hobby...

Thanks!
