Default Best way to charge Sub C cell (glow plug heater)

I want to use a real battery charger (Duratrax Digital or SuperBrain 989) to charge single sub c cells for a glow plug heater. I have the wall charge that came with the glow heater, but I don't like waiting 12 hours to have it charge. How can I charge a single battery?

Also, if it helps, I'm not into electric racing so I basically have the battery charger, battery and wall charger, anything else that is needed, I would need to know what to buy to make it work.

Thanks.

Hi Tony.

Do you actually have one of those chargers (dutratrax or superbrain?).

I use a swallow advance (think you have a different name for this charger in the US of A) to charge ignitors, starters etc.

Basically, just keep the current fairly low and you'll be sweet. I charge my 1200mah sub C ignitor at 1.2A. Doesnt get too hot, and takes a bout 1 hour to charge from being completely drained.

I just cut the connector off the wall charger and soldered some tabs on there so i can use with my charger (that i use for electric racing).

So yeah... just set the charger to the right kind of battery (NimH/NiCD) and set at 1amp or thereabouts.

Hope that's of some help.

Various chargers let you charge single cells and those that do usually let you adjust the cell type, charge rate, delta peak etc.

If you're wondering about how to conveniently connect your glo ignitor to your charger, then you might consider trying the following. Presumably you won't be using the wall charger any more, so in that case, you can use the lead and the glo-plug-style connnector from the wall charger to make for an easy connector to your general purpose charger.

Hope this helps.

I just got a Sub-C holder:

All I do is hook up the crocodile clips to the holder, put the battery in, and off it goes.

I also replaced my battery with a Sanyo 3600 (this is the largest battery that will fit into a metered igniter, Dynamite/Thundertiger style). If you're using a non-metered ignitor, like the one that comes with the LST2, you can get away with just about any battery. Personally, I'd get a IB4200 SHV, and pop it in - your plugs will glow much, much brighter!

Thanks Mach51, that was the part I'm looking for.

Thanks to the others as well.

I made up the exact same arrangement by soldering on some connectors to the lead off the wallcharger. Had I seen this lead for $4, I'd probably have saved myself some soldering! Either way, having the glo-plug style lead is more convenient than having to remove the cell from the glo ignitor.
