Default Boy’s Electric MT – Recommendations

I know there are tons of these types of posts out there but here is my situation.

I have been out of the R/C scene for about 10 years now. Was into air and boat and still have some old equipment. However, let’s ignore that for now.

My issue is that one of my boy’s is sick of the Wal-Mart 6.0v style R/C and they just don’t do it anymore. I want to step up as those cheoopo’s just don’t cut it. Now however he is still a boy (only 10) and experience is still light – But he is actualy pretty good and has a lot of control time for his age.

Not looking to Race and high performance is not important. We live in the woods and run our R/C on the grass, woods – trails – etc.

Like I said just a step up from crap that they sell at Wal Mart. Must be electric.

Right now my local Hobby shop it telling me the TraXX Stampede with a speed control would be a good package. Has a nice little radio included. It’s not 4wd but should go thru the rough spots ok. Yes, would like 4WD but also don’t want to spend $300 here. Looking to get into a package (car/radio) for ~$200 or so (or less if possible)

Can others give me some suggestions?

tks

a stampede or rustler will do great for him. they are the "gateway trucks" into this hobby.

i am about to sell the chassis of my rustler, all you would need is a radio system, esc, charger, and a servo (i will include a cheap motor , and a battery) it is worn a little. the motor is slow enough that he wouldnt hurt himself, and it will have long runtimes.

its 2 wheel drive, but it goes through mowed grass just fine! it runs well onroad too.

you could probably find the other things necisary to make this work for under 75$

Also, the Super Clodbuster is still around, heck of a great truck. Will go over ANYTHING, and can make it into a crawler later if he wants a "project".

Only if he's really mechanically inclined; you're gonna have to pay the price of the kit again to get a decent running chassis/suspension. Plus, most of them are more of suspension crawling, now going fast.

There ARE conversion kits out to make the stampede dual motor, 4WD, if you get it and 2WD is unsatisfactory... But I think stock, the stampede will be fine. There are not many 4WD electric monster trucks in the sub $200 catagory.

Stick with something with good parts availability and remember to purchase some extra parts when you take it on vacation. Ask your local hobby shop which parts to purchase.
